ViewLux Fence Installation: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
ViewLux fence installation in San Diego typically runs $4,130 – $10,620 installed, depending on linear footage, post condition, and whether we’re replacing a failed section or running a full perimeter. We carry ViewLux-compatible panels and post components on the truck for most standard residential jobs, so we can usually diagnose the failure and start the fix in one visit. Most owners discover they need this when a coastal wind event shears a panel connection, or when years of salt air have quietly eaten the aluminum post footing below the mounting plate.
You didn’t buy a ViewLux fence to think about it. You bought it because it was supposed to handle San Diego’s salt air and sun without turning the way wood does. And mostly, it does. But the hardware doesn’t last forever, and when a San Diego winter storm rolls through Mission Hills or Point Loma with 40-mile gusts, the first thing that fails is usually the part nobody looks at until the section is leaning.
Which ViewLux Models This Applies To

We work on ViewLux aluminum fence systems across the residential lines: the standard 4-foot and 5-foot panel heights, both the flat-top and spear-top styles, and the privacy slat configurations. The compatibility gotcha most San Diego homeowners run into is the post-to-panel bracket spacing. ViewLux panels are punched on a set cadence, and the bracket receivers on the post have to line up with those punches. Mixing a panel from one production run with a post from another sometimes leaves you a half-inch off, which is enough to make the panel rattle and the connection fail early.
If you still have the original paperwork, the panel SKU is printed on the rail sticker near one end. If the sticker is long gone, measure the panel width between the outermost pickets and look at the punch pattern on the top and bottom rails. We can match from those two measurements. For most San Diego installs, we use genuine ViewLux panels where they’re available and a direct-equivalent powder-coated aluminum panel when the original line has been discontinued. The powder-coat color match isn’t always perfect on a 10-year-old fence, so we’ll show you the replacement against your existing section before we cut anything.

Signs Your ViewLux Fence Installation Is Failing
- Fence section leaning at the post. This is almost always the post-to-panel bracket or the post footing, not the panel itself. In San Diego’s sandy coastal soil, post footings can shift an inch or two over several wet winters, and that movement loads the bracket until it pops.
- Rattling panels in moderate wind. The bracket screws are backing out or the bracket has stretched. A rattle that starts after a storm won’t get quieter on its own.
- Visible oxidation or white powder at the post base. Salt air accelerates aluminum corrosion at the mounting plate. This is the failure we see most often on fences within three miles of the coast, from Ocean Beach up through La Jolla.
- Gate sagging or dragging on one side. The hinge post has shifted, or the frame bolts have worked loose. A dragging gate will eventually bend the hinge pins and then the section welded to them starts to twist.
- Brown or rust-colored streaking on white or tan panels. This is a failing powder coat, and once it opens, the raw aluminum underneath starts pitting. It’s cosmetic until it isn’t. Left alone, the panel rail thins and the wind load does the rest.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

ViewLux fence installation in San Diego runs $4,130 – $10,620 installed. A single failed section with two posts usually lands at the low end. A full perimeter with gate hardware and re-set footings lands at the top. What drives the number: linear feet of fence, whether posts can be reused or need new footings, the panel height and style, and any concrete cutting required to pull old footings on a hardscape pad. You’ll see the parts cost and the labor cost as two lines. No buried numbers.
Following Penhallow Remodeling’s process, you get a written price before any work starts. That number is the number on the invoice. If we open up a footing and find something unexpected, we stop, explain it, and hand you a new written price before touching anything else. Every ViewLux fence installation we do in San Diego carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the section sags, rattles, or fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That promise is in writing, not just in the conversation.

You can check a few things without touching a tool: walk the line and mark every post that’s out of plumb, take photos of the bracket attachments at those posts, and note where oxidation is worst. You can even snug a loose bracket screw with a drill if you can reach it safely. What you shouldn’t do is try to re-plumb a loaded post or pull a section by yourself. A 5-foot aluminum panel in a 30-mile gust acts like a sail, and a post under tension will kick when the bracket releases. We’ve seen fingers get the worst of that exchange. I’d rather you call than lose the argument with physics.
If the panel is sound and it’s only a bracket or two, we can usually handle that same day. If the footings are shifting, we need a day to cut, set, and let the mix cure before re-hanging the panels. Trevor Nash will walk the fence with you and tell you exactly what he’d do and what it costs. As he says, “Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there.”
FAQs

A properly set ViewLux aluminum fence in San Diego typically runs 20 – 25 years before panels need replacement, with brackets and post hardware usually needing attention in the 10 – 15 year range. Coastal properties within a few blocks of the water will see hardware wear sooner due to salt air. If you’re west of I-5, plan on inspecting the post-to-panel brackets every two to three years. Call (619) 604-9624 and we’ll do that inspection for free while we’re out for an estimate.
Often yes. If the panel itself is straight and the powder coat is intact, we can replace brackets, re-set posts, and re-secure the section for a fraction of full replacement cost. The panel is only the problem when the rail is bent or the powder coat is failing to the point of visible pitting. We’ll tell you which way to go after we see it in person, and you’ll have a written price before you decide. Estimates are free.
A standard section replacement with bracket work is usually a half-day job in San Diego, assuming we don’t need to wait on concrete cure. A full fence line with new footings typically runs two to three days. We give you a defined arrival window before we show up, and a live person answers the phone at (619) 604-9624 if you need to reach us during the work.
We carry the most common ViewLux panel heights, bracket sets, and post hardware on the truck for standard residential lines, plus a direct-equivalent aluminum panel for discontinued styles. If your fence is an older or specialized ViewLux series, we may need a day or two to source the exact match. When we arrive for the estimate, we’ll confirm whether we can start same visit or need a follow-up.
