Techo-Bloc Bathroom Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
Techo-Bloc bathroom remodeling in San Diego typically runs $10,620 – $33,040 installed, depending on whether we’re working with Techo-Bloc wall panels, shower bases, or their modular bathroom systems. We stock the common replacement components on our trucks and can often start the swap the same week. Homeowners usually discover a problem when a shower pan develops a hairline crack near the drain, a wall panel pulls away from the substrate, or water starts pooling where it never pooled before. If you’re seeing any of that, you’re in the right place.
Which Techo-Bloc Models This Applies To

Techo-Bloc doesn’t make traditional bathroom vanities or faucets. What they do make, and what we work with regularly in San Diego homes, is their line of modular stone and concrete shower systems: shower bases, wall panels, and transition pieces that install as a system. The compatibility gotcha most owners hit is that Techo-Bloc shower bases are engineered to pair with their specific wall panel profiles, not universal tile. The base has a raised perimeter channel that accepts only Techo-Bloc or Techo-Bloc-spec panels. If a previous contractor set tile directly onto a Techo-Bloc base without the proper transition, that’s where cracks and leaks start.
To identify your part, look for the molded logo on the underside of the shower base or the back edge of a wall panel. Measurements matter more than model numbers here: Techo-Bloc bases come in set footprint sizes (32″×48″, 36″×36″, 36″×60″ are the most common we see in San Diego bathrooms), and the drain location is fixed, not field-adjustable. If you’re replacing a failed base, we match the footprint and the drain offset. For wall panels, we check the panel thickness against the base channel before ordering anything. Aftermarket equivalents exist, but for Techo-Bloc’s interlocking system, we’ve had far better long-term results with OEM or Techo-Bloc-licensed components. The tolerances are tighter, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise means we’re only installing parts we’d put behind our own name.

Signs Your Techo-Bloc Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Water pooling away from the drain. This usually means the shower base has settled or the subfloor underneath has deflected. In San Diego’s coastal neighborhoods, older homes on raised foundations shift more than owners expect, and a rigid Techo-Bloc base doesn’t flex with the house.
- Hairline cracks radiating from the drain collar. The drain area takes the most stress. If the original installer didn’t set the base in a full mortar bed underneath, the unsupported sections flex every time someone steps in, and cracks follow.
- Wall panels separating from the substrate at the seams. Techo-Bloc panels are heavy. If they were installed over green board instead of cement board substrate (the moisture-resistant layer behind the panel), the board swells and the panel pulls away.
- Mold or mildew staining at the base-to-wall transition. Water is wicking behind the panel. By the time you see staining on the outside, moisture has been working behind the system for weeks or months.
- Grout or sealant failing repeatedly at the same joint. When you re-caulk the same seam every six months and it cracks again, the joint is moving. A Techo-Bloc system is designed to be rigid; movement means something underneath is wrong.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
A Techo-Bloc bathroom remodel in San Diego falls in that $10,620 – $33,040 range depending on scope. A straightforward shower base and panel replacement in an existing footprint runs on the lower end. A full bathroom remodel using Techo-Bloc’s system, including demo, substrate correction, new base, wall panels, plumbing adjustments, and finishes, runs toward the top. The wide range exists because we don’t know what’s behind the wall until we open it. If the subfloor needs repair or the plumbing rough-in has to move, the number changes. What doesn’t change is this: the price we give you in writing before work starts is the price you pay. Every job includes a written guarantee, and if the work fails inside 365 days, we come back and fix it at no charge. No service call, no re-inspection fee. Trevor Nash built this business on saying the price before the work and standing behind it after.

There are things you can check safely. Look at the caulk lines around the shower base. Check whether the base rocks when you press on the corners. Look for water staining on the ceiling below if there’s a room under the bathroom. Those observations help us give you a better sense of what we’re walking into before we arrive. But pulling a Techo-Bloc shower base is not a weekend job. The base is heavy, the mortar bed underneath has to be reset properly, and the interlocking wall panels don’t forgive sloppy measurements. Get the substrate wrong and you’ll have the same failure in a year, just with a new base on top of it. If you’re seeing cracks, movement, or persistent leaks, call (619) 604-9624. Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there.
FAQs

A properly installed Techo-Bloc shower base and wall system should last 20 – 30 years in San Diego’s climate. The failure we see isn’t from the product wearing out; it’s from substrate problems underneath or installation shortcuts. Coastal humidity accelerates any water intrusion that does occur, but the Techo-Bloc material itself holds up well when set correctly.
Small surface chips can sometimes be filled with a color-matched epoxy repair kit, but a hairline crack that runs through the base is a replacement. The base carries weight every day, and any crack will eventually let water through to the subfloor. Call (619) 604-9624 and we’ll give you an honest read on whether it’s repairable; we’d rather tell you it’s a fill job than sell you a replacement you don’t need.
Most shower base and wall panel replacements take 3 – 5 working days from demo to final caulk. A full Techo-Bloc bathroom remodel runs 2 – 4 weeks depending on whether we’re moving plumbing, replacing the subfloor, or changing the footprint. We give you an arrival window before work starts and we keep it.
We stock the most common Techo-Bloc shower bases and transition components in San Diego and can order less common footprints or panel finishes within days. We also work with KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria countertops, and Silestone surfaces for the parts of the bathroom that surround the shower system. Call (619) 604-9624 and we’ll check inventory while you’re on the phone.
