Silestone Kitchen Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide

Silestone kitchen remodeling in San Diego typically runs $16,520 – $53,100 depending on countertop square footage, cabinet scope, and whether we’re replacing a failed section or rebuilding the whole kitchen. We stock Silestone-compatible slabs, sinks, and edge profiles at our San Diego shop, and we can usually start a countertop replacement within about two weeks of measure. Most owners call us after a seam separates, a corner chips through to the substrate, or a sink cutout starts showing hairline cracks around the rim.

Here’s the thing about Silestone: the product itself is a quartz composite made mostly from natural quartz bound with polymer resin. When it fails in a San Diego kitchen, the failure is rarely the material breaking down on its own. It’s almost always the installation underneath it or a point load it was never meant to carry. That distinction matters because it changes what the repair costs and whether the problem will come back.

Key Takeaways:

  • Silestone countertop replacement in San Diego runs $2,360 – $7,670 for countertops alone; full kitchen remodels involving Silestone run $16,520 – $53,100.
  • We’re an independent San Diego remodeler, not a Silestone dealer or affiliate, which means we can price your job honestly without protecting a brand relationship.
  • Every Silestone job from our crew includes a written price before demolition and the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing.
  • Trevor Nash, our owner, walks every Silestone project before we quote it. You’ll get a number you can hold us to.

Which Silestone Models This Applies To

A remodeled kitchen with a waterfall island and wood cabinets

Silestone’s product line has shifted over the years, and knowing which generation you have changes how we approach the remodel. The older Series 1 colors (think classic whites and beiges from the early 2000s) used a slightly different resin blend than the current Sunlit Days and Loft Series. The newer lines are more UV-stable, which matters in San Diego kitchens with big east-facing windows. If your countertop near the window has gone chalky or bleached out over five or six years, you’re likely looking at an older resin formula.

How to identify what you have: Silestone slabs every year carry a laser-printed code on the underside, usually near a corner. If you can reach under an overhang with a phone camera, snap a photo of any printed text or stickers. If the original installer left a cutout piece (the sink cutout is often kept and used as a cutting board), the code will be on the back of that too. Bring that to us and we’ll match the color and finish without guesswork. No code? Bring us a drawer front or a photo in natural light and we’ll work from there.

On OEM versus aftermarket: Silestone is a Cosentino brand, and Cosentino controls slab distribution tightly. That means “genuine Silestone” is the only option for a true color match. There are aftermarket quartz brands that can get close, and we install those too (Caesarstone and Cambria are both in our material mix), but if you want the new slab to sit next to an old backsplash or island top without a visible mismatch, you want the real thing. We source our Silestone through Cosentino’s San Diego distribution. No gray-market slabs. No “it’s basically the same” color substitutions without you signing off on the sample in your actual kitchen light.

Signs Your Silestone Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Hairline cracks at inside corners of the sink cutout. This is the most common Silestone failure we see in San Diego homes. Quartz doesn’t flex, so any movement in the cabinet below – and we see a lot of it in older Mission Hills and North Park houses where cabinets have settled – concentrates stress at the two front corners of the sink cutout. Tiny cracks there are a warning, not a death sentence, but they will grow.
  • Seam separation at the island-to-run joint. Quartz expands and contracts with temperature swings. San Diego’s inland valleys can see a 30-degree swing between night and mid-afternoon, and over a decade that movement works on seams. If you can feel a ridge or catch a fingernail on a seam that used to be flat, the adhesive has begun to shear.
  • Chipping along the front edge, especially near the dishwasher or a busy corner. Silestone’s edge profiles are cut at the fabrication stage. A chip usually means the edge was undercut too thin, or someone has been setting heavy pots down on the nose. Either way, chips don’t self-heal, and the quartz resin won’t patch invisibly.
  • Staining that won’t lift with a standard quartz cleaner. Silestone’s newer series are billed as stain-resistant, but red wine, turmeric, or beet juice left overnight on a matte finish can still penetrate the resin. If a stain has set, you may be looking at a surface refinish or a section replacement.
  • A dull, whitish haze that never goes away. That’s usually chemical etching from acidic cleaners. Silestone is acid-resistant, not acid-proof. Household bleach sprays, oven cleaner overspray, or acidic stone cleaners applied over years will break down the resin sheen. Once the gloss is gone, no polish restores it fully.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open kitchen and dining area after a remodel

Countertop-only Silestone replacement in San Diego runs $2,360 – $7,670 installed, with most kitchens landing between $3,500 and $5,500. A full kitchen remodel that includes Silestone counters, new KraftMaid or Wellborn cabinets, and a Kohler sink runs $16,520 – $53,100. The widest swing in that number is cabinet layout: a modest L-shaped kitchen with stock cabinets is a very different job than a full gut with an island and custom island seating.

What’s included in every Silestone countertop replacement we do in San Diego:

  • Templating (digital measure of your existing cabinets, including any out-of-square corners)
  • Slab fabrication and edge profile (eased, bevel, or bullnose)
  • Removal and haul-away of the old top
  • Cabinet inspection and any shim work needed to level the base before install
  • Sink or cooktop cutout and reinstallation, with a new bead of silicone and a written note if your faucet holes need adjustment
  • Seam setting and color-matched adhesive
  • Final cleanup and a walkthrough with the written guarantee in hand

We never leave the price vague. Tell us what you need, and the number you get before demolition is the number on the invoice. If we open a wall and find rotten framing or an undersized cabinet box under the countertop, we’ll stop and show you before we spend a dollar of your money. No change orders without a signed approval line.

Every Silestone installation carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if the seam opens, the caulk fails, or the edge chips within the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s not a verbal handshake. It’s on the paperwork.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself. Run your fingertips along the sink cutout corners in good light. Slide a business card across the seams to see if one side catches. Look under the cabinet overhang for the Silestone code so you have it ready when you call. None of that puts you at risk.

What we’d tell you not to do: don’t attempt a chip repair with an off-the-shelf epoxy kit unless the chip is smaller than a pencil eraser and you’ve done it before. Quartz resin is unforgiving, and a bad patch job bakes into the surface and makes a professional repair harder. Don’t try to reset a lifted seam with construction adhesive. And if your failure is near a point load like a heavy farmhouse sink or a granite-topped island overhang unsupported beyond 12 inches, don’t ignore it. A cracked quartz slab under tension can shear suddenly. That’s a job for someone who does this every week in San Diego kitchens.

If you’re not sure whether yours is cosmetic or structural, call (619) 604-9624 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s worth a service visit, and if it is, the visit gets you a written repair or replacement number you can keep.
