Moen Driveway & Pavers: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Moen-compatible driveway and paver hardware across San Diego, with most replacement jobs running $295 – $21,240 depending on whether we’re sealing, repairing, or rebuilding the surface. A failed paver or cracked driveway section is usually discovered the hard way: a shifted stone near the garage apron, a low spot collecting water after rain, or a paver edge that’s started to crumble where the driveway meets the street. If your Moen-tagged exterior hardscape is showing age, we can match the part, price the fix in writing, and get it handled without turning your front yard into a construction zone for weeks.
One thing worth saying up front: Penhallow Remodeling San Diego is an independent contractor. We’re not affiliated with Moen, but we work with their hardware and finish standards regularly, and we know how their products behave in San Diego’s coastal air and hard-packed soil.
Which Moen Models This Applies To

Moen’s driveway and paver line runs through their outdoor living and hardscape catalog, and the compatibility question usually comes down to the paver profile and the edge restraint system rather than a stamped model number on the stone itself. Most Moen pavers in San Diego are modular concrete units in 16″ x 16″, 24″ x 24″, and 24″ x 36″ formats, with a manufactured edge that interlocks for tighter joint lines. If you’re trying to match an existing paver, pull one up from a corner and check the underside. Moen stamps a mold number there, plus a date code that tells us which production run it came from. That matters because color blends shift slightly between runs, and a paver from 2019 won’t always match a 2024 replacement without some blending work on site.
For driveway surfaces, the bigger question is whether you have Moen’s permeable paver system or a standard interlocking paver over a compacted base. The permeable version has wider joint gaps and a different base spec, and it drains differently in San Diego’s clay-heavy soil. If your driveway was installed with a sand-set base and you’re seeing pavers sink or tilt, the paver itself isn’t usually the problem. The base has failed underneath. Replacing the stone without fixing the base means you’ll be back out there in eighteen months looking at the same low spot.

Signs Your Moen Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Pavers rocking underfoot near the edges. The edge restraint has loosened or the sand bedding has washed out. In San Diego’s dry summers, the sand between joints shrinks, and the first hard rain pushes it out through the open edge. The paver then has room to move.
- Low spots where water pools after rain. This is almost always a base problem, not a paver problem. The compacted gravel base underneath has settled unevenly, usually because it wasn’t compacted in lifts or because San Diego’s clay soil shifted after a wet winter.
- Crumbling or spalling on the paver surface. Coastal salt air accelerates surface wear on concrete pavers, especially within three miles of the shore. The top layer flakes off in thin sheets. Once spalling starts, sealing won’t reverse it, though it will slow the damage.
- Joint sand disappearing between pavers. You sweep in new sand, and a month later it’s gone. That means water is moving through the joints too fast, or ants have colonized the base. Ant activity is a bigger driver of paver failure in San Diego than most homeowners realize.
- Driveway shifting at the apron where it meets the street. City right-of-way work, tree roots, or a poorly built transition strip can push the first few rows of pavers out of alignment. This section sees the most vehicle weight and the least structural support.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In San Diego, paver driveway installation runs $8,260 – $21,240 for a standard two-car driveway, while concrete driveway installation lands between $5,310 and $14,160. If you’re just sealing an existing driveway, expect $295 – $825. A full driveway replacement, including demolition and haul-off, runs $5,900 – $16,520. Paver patio work starts at $4,130 and tops out around $12,980 depending on square footage and the paver line you choose.
Every price we give is written down before work starts. That number includes the parts, the labor, the base repair if needed, and the cleanup. If the work fails inside 365 days, our Done Right Promise means we come back and fix it at no charge. No service call fee, no re-inspection charge, no argument about whose fault it was. We put that in writing on every job.
DIY or Call Us?
A homeowner can safely handle two things: sweeping joint sand back into dry paver joints, and checking that the edge restraint is still pinned down. That’s real maintenance, and doing it twice a year in San Diego will extend a paver driveway’s life by years. Beyond that, the work gets heavy and precise. Lifting pavers to rebuild a base means moving hundreds of pounds of stone, compacting gravel in lifts, and re-screeding sand to a tolerance your eye can’t hit with a rake. If the base has failed, no amount of paver-leveling will fix it, and you’ll spend a weekend doing work that fails again in a season.
For anything past joint sand and edge checks, call us at (619) 604-9624. We’ll send a background-checked, uniformed technician to look at what’s actually failing, write you a price before any work starts, and do it once. Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there.
FAQs

A properly installed Moen paver driveway in San Diego lasts 25 – 35 years, with the surface holding up longer than the base underneath it. The real variable is the base: driveways built on compacted gravel bases with proper edge restraints routinely outlast driveways set directly on compacted soil. If your pavers are failing at year ten, the stone isn’t the issue; the installation was.
Call (619) 604-9624 and we’ll tell you whether your driveway is failing from the top down or the bottom up. The estimate is free either way.
Yes, if the base is still sound. We can lift individual pavers, re-screed the sand bedding, reset the stones, and re-compact the joints for a few hundred dollars in most cases. If the base has settled or washed out, a spot repair will fail again, and we’ll tell you that before you spend a dollar on it. Honest assessment comes before any work order.
A small paver repair, like resetting a shifted row or rebuilding an edge, takes one day on site. A full paver driveway replacement in San Diego runs three to five days including demolition, base rebuild, paver setting, and joint sand. We’ll give you a defined arrival window before we start, not a vague “sometime next week.”
We keep common Moen-compatible edge restraints, joint sand, and paver-blend matching kits on the truck, and we source Moen pavers directly from San Diego distributors when a full replacement calls for it. For matching an older color blend, we’ll pull one of your existing pavers and match it at the yard before ordering so you’re not looking at a patchwork driveway.
