Why San Diego Homeowners Choose KraftMaid Construction

Penhallow Remodeling San Diego provides independent San Diego Kraftmaid service and installation across San Diego County, from hinge replacements and drawer glide swaps on existing kitchens to full cabinet refacing and installation on remodels. We’re not a KraftMaid dealer and we’re not authorized by the manufacturer, which means we work for you, not a brand quota. Our carpenters and finish crews have rebuilt, refaced, and rehung hundreds of KraftMaid cabinet installations across San Diego, so we know exactly how their box construction, hinge plates, and drawer glides behave after years of coastal humidity and daily use. Call (619) 604-9624 for a free estimate on KraftMaid service, repair, or installation.

Why Trust Penhallow Remodeling San Diego for Your KraftMaid Construction?

A stone counter, tile backsplash and open shelf after a kitchen remodel

KraftMaid cabinets show up in a lot of San Diego kitchens because they offer a wide range of door styles and finishes at a price point that makes sense for mid-range remodels. The Vantage line shows up in tract homes from the 2000s. Venicia shows up in condos and townhomes where the full-overlay look mattered but custom pricing didn’t. Passport Series bases sit in a lot of Clairemont and Mira Mesa ranches from the 1990s. We know these lines because we’ve been inside them for the better part of two decades, ever since Trevor Nash picked up his first framing hammer at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and learned that good work starts with honest measurements and no shortcuts. Trevor has spent years running remodeling crews across San Diego, from compact condo kitchens in Mission Hills to full gut-renovations and Kraftmaid in Chula Vista. He knows what’s behind a KraftMaid cabinet door before anyone pulls a hinge, and he leaves a job site cleaner than he found it.

Every KraftMaid job we take gets a written price before any work starts, a real arrival window, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s the Kingswell standard we’ve operated under since 2004, and it applies to KraftMaid work the same as any full remodel.

Common KraftMaid Construction Problems We Fix in San Diego

San Diego’s coastal air does specific things to cabinet materials. The marine layer that rolls through Mission Hills and Point Loma keeps humidity high even when the temperature is mild, and that moisture works its way into MDF, particleboard, and thermofoil in ways you don’t see in Phoenix or Las Vegas. Here’s what we fix most often on KraftMaid cabinets in San Diego:

  • Delaminating thermofoil doors on Venicia line cabinets. The thermofoil wrap on older Venicia doors separates from the MDF core, especially near dishwashers, ranges, and any heat source that cycles hot and cold. The adhesive breaks down, the foil bubbles, and the door looks ruined. In many cases we can reface the door rather than replace the whole cabinet.
  • Sagging or binding drawer glides on Passport Series bases. Passport Series cabinets installed before 2015 often came with side-mount glides that were fine when new but lose their bearings over time. Drawers start to scrape, then stick, then refuse to close. We replace the glides with exact-match or upgraded full-extension hardware and test the drawer with weight in it before we call the job done.
  • Loose hinge plates on full-overlay doors. When hinges get over-tightened or stripped during installation, the plate that holds the door to the cabinet box loses its bite. The door starts to sag, the gap between doors widens at the top, and eventually the hinge pulls free. We re-drill for 8mm dowel inserts, reset the hinges with new screws, and adjust door gaps to within a dime’s width.
  • Warped or swollen MDF door panels in high-humidity areas. Laundry rooms and bathrooms with poor ventilation cause MDF panels on KraftMaid doors to swell along the edges. The paint or finish cracks first, then the panel itself starts to bow. We can often stabilize the panel and refinish it, but if the core is saturated, we’ll tell you straight and recommend replacement.
  • Broken or missing door bumpers and soft-close dampers. The small parts fail quietly. Bumpers fall off, dampers wear out, and suddenly every door closes with a crack. We stock KraftMaid-compatible bumpers and dampers so these fixes are quick and cheap, not a three-week wait for a special order.

KraftMaid Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

For KraftMaid cabinets, we default to OEM or exact-match replacement hinges, glides, and door bumpers whenever they’re still available through KraftMaid’s parts channel. When a finish or door style has been discontinued, we source close-match aftermarket hardware and mill matching door blanks rather than force a mismatched repair you’d notice every time you walked into the kitchen. We only recommend full replacement when the cabinet box itself is compromised or when refacing would cost more than 60% of new cabinet cost. That line matters. A $400 door reface makes sense on a $600 cabinet. It doesn’t make sense on a $250 cabinet. We’ll show you the math either way. Call (619) 604-9624 and we’ll walk you through what your specific KraftMaid repair looks like in dollars, not guesses.

Our KraftMaid Service Process – Step by Step

  1. 1
Diagnosis. We inspect the cabinet, hinge, glide, or door panel and identify exactly what failed and why. For thermofoil bubbling, we check ventilation and distance from heat sources. For drawer binding, we check whether the glide is bent, worn, or just misaligned.
  2. 2
Written price. Before any work starts, you get a written number for the repair. Not a range, not a ballpark. The number on day one is the number on the invoice.
  3. 3
Repair or install. We use OEM KraftMaid parts when available, exact-match aftermarket when not, and we mill door blanks to match discontinued styles rather than leave you with a visible patch.
  4. 4
Test. Every door opens and closes with the right gap. Every drawer glides under load. Every hinge plate sits flush and tight. We test with weight, not just with an empty drawer.
  5. 5
Warranty. Every KraftMaid repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it fails inside the guarantee period, we return and fix it at no charge, no service call fee, no re-inspection fee.

KraftMaid Products We Service & Install in San Diego

We service and install the full KraftMaid lineup including Vantage, Venicia, Passport Series, and DuraKraft Plus, offering El Cajon Kraftmaid service as well. Vantage is KraftMaid’s value line, common in San Diego tract homes and rentals. Venicia is the full-overlay line with more door styles and finish options. Passport Series was the budget-friendly entry line with simpler construction and fewer finish choices. DuraKraft Plus is the upgraded construction option with plywood boxes on select lines. We keep KraftMaid-compatible hinges, glides, bumpers, and soft-close dampers in our San Diego inventory so common repairs don’t wait on a parts shipment from Ohio. If you need cabinet installation, refacing, or a partial kitchen remodel built around your existing KraftMaid boxes, we handle that too.

We Also Service These Brands

Most San Diego kitchens mix brands. Your KraftMaid cabinets sit under a Cambria or Silestone countertop, next to a Kohler sink and a Toto toilet behind the wall. We service and install all of those, which means you don’t need three different contractors for one kitchen. Our multi-brand capability matters because the guarantee behind the work covers the whole job, not just one product line.
