Grohe Driveway & Pavers: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
If you own a Grohe outdoor fixture and the driveway or paver area around it is failing, we can help. A Grohe-compatible driveway and paver install in San Diego typically runs $8,260 – $21,240, and we stock the common paver profiles and drainage parts on our trucks so most repairs start the same day. Homeowners usually discover the problem after a rain, when water pools against the foundation, or when a paver sinks and throws off the slope of the whole run.
The frustrating part is that the problem rarely announces itself. A paver shifts a quarter inch. Water starts pooling where it used to sheet off. By the time you notice, the base underneath has already washed out or settled, and that’s what we end up fixing. Trevor Nash has walked enough San Diego driveways to know that what looks like a surface problem is usually a base problem wearing a Grohe-branded disguise.
Key takeaways:
- Installed paver driveway work in San Diego runs $8,260 – $21,240 depending on square footage and base condition.
- We carry Belgard and Unilock pavers, plus drainage channel and edging parts, on our trucks.
- Every job gets a written price before we start and a 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing.
- Penhallow Remodeling San Diego is an independent contractor, not affiliated with Grohe.
Which Grohe Models This Applies To

Grohe doesn’t make pavers, but plenty of San Diego homes pair Grohe outdoor faucets, shower posts, and drainage channels with paver driveways, patios, and walkways. The Grohe part in question is usually the drain body or channel grate that sits flush with the paver surface, and the failure is almost always the joint between fixture and paver, not the fixture itself.
If you’re trying to identify what you have, look for the Grohe model number stamped on the underside of the drain grate or on the escutcheon plate where the fixture meets the wall. Common outdoor lines include the Grohe Blue Pure outdoor faucet series and the Grohe AquaGrade drainage channels, which come in 50-millimeter and 100-millimeter widths. Measure the channel width before you buy replacement grates. A 50-millimeter part will not seat into a 100-millimeter channel, no matter how close it looks at the store.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: Grohe’s OEM grates and drain bodies are stainless steel and built for the exact channel profile, but they’re priced like imported plumbing parts, because they are. A quality aftermarket stainless grate from a trade supplier usually costs 30 – 50% less and installs the same way, but you need to confirm the load rating. A driveway that handles a full-size pickup needs a Class B or C load-rated grate, not a patio-grade Class A. We stock both and match the load rating to the vehicle traffic on your driveway, not to what the box says.

Signs Your Grohe Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Water pools against the garage door or foundation after rain. The paver base has settled or washed out, and the slope that once carried water away is now carrying it toward your house. This is the most common San Diego failure we see after the winter rains.
- A paver sinks or rocks underfoot. The compacted base underneath has eroded, usually because a drainage channel or edging has failed and is letting water undercut the pavers. One rocking paver is the first sign of a spreading problem.
- The Grohe drain grate is loose, tilted, or broken. When the grate shifts, the channel it covers fills with sand and debris, which backs up water and accelerates base erosion. A loose grate on a driveway is also a tripping hazard.
- You can see gaps opening between pavers, especially along the edge. Edge restraint has failed, and the whole field is starting to drift. Pavers don’t wander on their own. Something stopped holding them in place.
- White crust or efflorescence appears on pavers near the Grohe fixture. Water is sitting longer than it should, pulling minerals up through the paver. This tells us the drainage path is compromised, not just the surface.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A paver driveway installation in San Diego runs $8,260 – $21,240. The spread comes down to square footage, the condition of the existing base, whether we’re reusing pavers or laying new ones, and the drainage work involved. If you’re replacing a section around a Grohe drain, the number is usually on the lower end. If the whole field has drifted and we’re pulling everything, recompacting the base, and resetting the pavers, you’re looking at the higher end.
Here’s what the price includes:
- Written line-item price before work starts. Not a ballpark. The number you see on the proposal is the number on the invoice.
- Base prep or repair. We don’t lay pavers on a compromised base. If the crushed rock and sand need recompaction, that’s in the number, not a change order.
- Drainage channel and grate replacement where the Grohe fixture meets the paver surface.
- Edge restraint, sand, and compaction. The parts that keep the pavers from drifting again.
- The 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the work fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No service call fee, no re-inspection fee, no argument.

DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things you can check safely before you call. Look at the slope of the pavers with a level. Clear the Grohe drain grate and channel with a hose to rule out a simple clog. Watch where water goes the next time it rains. That tells you a lot about what’s happening under the surface.
What we’d tell you not to do is pull pavers and start digging. The base under a paver driveway is compacted in layers, and if you disturb it without recompacting each lift, you’ll get a soft spot that sinks again in six months. You also don’t want to pour concrete over the problem. It hides the failure and makes the eventual repair twice as expensive.
If the pavers are moving, the drain is sitting proud of the surface, or water is heading toward the foundation, call us at (619) 604-9624. Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there.
FAQs

A properly built paver driveway with a sound base and correctly installed drainage will last 25 – 30 years in San Diego’s climate. The Grohe drain channel itself will typically outlast the pavers around it, since it’s stainless steel. What shortens the lifespan is water undermining the base, which is why we spend as much time on drainage as we do on the pavers themselves. If you’re seeing settlement inside five years, the base was never built right. Call (619) 604-9624 for an honest assessment.
We can usually repair a section if the base underneath is still sound and the failure is isolated, like a sunken paver or a broken grate. The catch is that once edge restraint fails and pavers start drifting, matching the repaired section to the rest of the field gets harder. We’ll tell you plainly whether a section repair makes sense or whether you’re throwing money at a base that’s failing across the whole run. Estimates are free.
A localized section repair around a Grohe drain usually takes a day or two. A full driveway replacement typically runs three to five working days, depending on square footage and how much of the old base needs to be excavated and rebuilt. We give you a written start window before work begins, so you know when the crew is coming and when it’ll be done. Call (619) 604-9624 to schedule a walkthrough.
We stock common Grohe drain grates and channel sections in the 50-millimeter and 100-millimeter widths, along with Belgard and Unilock pavers in the profiles most San Diego homes use. If your Grohe fixture is an older or discontinued model, we can source the OEM part through our trade suppliers, which usually takes a few days. We’ll confirm parts availability before we schedule the job, so you’re never waiting on a backorder after the driveway is already torn up.
If the pavers around your Grohe drain are failing, or the water isn’t going where it should, call (619) 604-9624. We’ll walk the job, give you a written price, and stand behind the work for a full year. That’s the Kingswell Way, and it’s been our standard since 2004.
