Why San Diego Homeowners Choose Dvele Construction
We provide independent Dvele in San Diego construction service: remodels, repairs, and panel-joint work on Dvele IQ, Adapt, Luxe, and Origin homes. We’re not a Dvele dealer or factory-authorized shop, but our crews have worked inside Dvele assemblies across coastal, canyon, and inland San Diego microclimates long enough to know exactly where these homes fail and what it costs to fix them properly. That means a written price before we open a wall, a 365-day Done Right Promise on every job, and a real person answering the phone at (619) 604-9624.
Dvele builds a tight house. That’s the appeal. But a tight house means every seam, every flashing detail, every factory seal matters more than it does on an ordinary stick-built home. When something breaks or gets nicked during a remodel, the failure is rarely cosmetic. It usually shows up as a draft, a damp spot, peeling paint, or a smart sensor that won’t stop sending alerts. Fixing it correctly means understanding the assembly, not just patching the visible surface.
Our San Diego location matters here in ways that don’t apply to a franchise in Phoenix or Portland. Marine air corrodes metal fasteners differently than dry inland heat. Canyon dust loads up ERV filters twice as fast as the manufacturer’s generic rating. Wet winters send water into slope-side foundation seams that never see moisture in a flat subdivision. We’ve learned these patterns by working on Chula Vista Dvele service calls and throughout the region, not by reading a tech bulletin.
Call (619) 604-9624 and you’ll get Trevor Nash or a member of our team directly. No voicemail maze. No callback window. Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there.
Why Trust Penhallow Remodeling San Diego for Your Dvele Construction?

Dvele homes are built as panelized assemblies, not site-framed rooms. Every wall, floor cassette, and roof panel leaves the factory with the air barrier, insulation, and wiring channels already installed. That’s efficient, but it changes what happens during a remodel or repair. Cutting into a Dvele wall is not the same as opening a traditional stud bay. The panel is doing structural work, thermal work, and air-sealing work all at once. If you don’t understand where the load paths run or where the vapor barrier lives, you’ll create a problem that doesn’t show up for six months.
Trevor Nash grew up in Los Angeles and picked up his first framing hammer in a trade program at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, where he learned that good work starts with honest measurements and no shortcuts. He’s spent the better part of two decades running remodeling crews across San Diego, from compact condo kitchens in Mission Hills to full gut-renovations closer to Balboa Park. He’s known for spelling out exactly what’s behind a wall before anyone pulls a permit, and for leaving a job site cleaner than he found it.
Our crews apply that same discipline to Dvele work. When we open a Dvele panel assembly, we know what we’re looking at. We know where the factory splines and gaskets sit, how the panel-to-panel tape should be lapped, and what happens when someone before us used the wrong fasteners. We carry Dvele-compatible sealing tapes, sill-seal material, and the right low-VOC interior finishes so we’re not waiting on a supply house order while your wall is open. And because every job gets a written price up front and a written 365-day guarantee, the number you see on day one is the number you’ll see on the invoice.
We are an independent Dvele service provider. We are not authorized by, affiliated with, or endorsed by Dvele. That’s actually useful to you: it means we have no incentive to hide a failure that should have been addressed at the factory. We’ll tell you plainly whether a problem is installer error, material fatigue, or a design limitation of the particular Dvele series you own.

Common Dvele Construction Problems We Fix in San Diego
Every builder has failure patterns. Ours are Dvele-specific and San Diego-specific, because our crews have repaired enough of these homes to see the same few issues repeat themselves:
- Condensation at cantilevered floor edges (Dvele IQ and Adapt). Dvele cantilevers are built with a continuous factory air barrier, but if that barrier gets nicked during panel set or in later remodeling, warm interior air finds the rim joist. We see this most often in coastal San Diego neighborhoods like Point Loma and Ocean Beach, where the temperature differential between inside air and the marine-cooled rim joist is enough to make the wood damp. The symptom is peeling paint at the floor line or a faint musty smell along the baseboard. The fix involves opening the underside, repairing the air barrier, and re-insulating. A patch job just hides the damp.
- Hairline cracks in airtight drywall at wall-ceiling transitions (all Dvele series). Dvele’s drywall is part of the air barrier, not just a finish surface. After the first hot-dry season, especially on south-facing elevations, the framing and panel joints move slightly and hairline cracks appear where the ceiling meets the wall. This isn’t structural failure; it’s thermal expansion. But because the drywall is airtight, the repair must include re-taping with Dvele-specified joint compound and sometimes re-sealing the air barrier behind the tape. Standard drywall mud won’t hold the same way. We see this on Dvele Origin homes in Mira Mesa and inland Escondido more than coastal units, because the temperature swings are wider inland.
- Exterior cladding fasteners backing out on Dvele Luxe homes near the coast. Dvele Luxe uses a rain-screen cladding system with hidden fasteners. In salt-air zones like La Jolla and Del Mar, we’ve found those fasteners working loose over three to five years, especially on the windward side of the house. When a fastener backs out even a quarter-inch, wind-driven rain can get behind the rain screen and sit against the weather-resistant barrier. The fix is re-seating the fasteners with a compatible sealant and checking the drainage plane. This is a job for someone who understands the Luxe cladding system, not a painter with a caulk gun.
- ERV intake filters clogging in canyon dust (Dvele IQ and Adapt). Dvele’s energy recovery ventilators draw outside air through a filter, then pass it through the heat exchanger. In canyon-adjacent neighborhoods like Mission Hills and Bankers Hill, where the Santa Ana winds push fine particulate dust through the air, the filters clog in half the manufacturer’s rated interval. The airflow sensor sees reduced flow, trips a warning, and the ERV stops exchanging air. The symptom is stale air, higher indoor humidity, or a bathroom fan that runs constantly. We replace the filters, clean the exchanger, and rebalance the airflow. If the filters keep clogging too quickly, we’ll suggest the right upgraded filter media for your specific canyon exposure.
- Bottom plate seal failures newer-Dvele owners mistake for HVAC problems. On some Dvele panel sets, the factory-installed sill seal between the bottom plate and the concrete slab gets folded or pinched during craning. The result is a small gap, sometimes no wider than 1/8 inch, that lets conditioned air escape and outdoor air in. The owner feels a draft near the floor and assumes the HVAC is failing. It’s not. It’s an air leak at the panel-to-slab joint. Our crew repaired exactly this on a Dvele Adapt home in Rancho Bernardo where the owner reported a cold draft in the primary bedroom. We pulled the baseboard and found the factory seal folded over in one bay. We cut in a new sill-seal strip, taped the interior air barrier per Dvele’s detailing, and re-pressurized the zone. The bedroom now holds 72°F with no fan noise.
Dvele Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

Dvele parts are not sitting on a shelf at the local lumberyard. Exterior cladding panels, proprietary flashing profiles, and factory gaskets are manufactured and distributed through Dvele’s supply chain. For anything that affects the building envelope, the air barrier, or the drainage plane, we insist on factory-sourced Dvele parts. Using a generic substitute on a panel joint or a flashing detail voids the enclosure warranty and risks a leak that costs far more than the part saved. We’ll order the right Dvele part and wait for it. We won’t improvise.
For interior finish work, the calculus is different. Drywall is drywall, though Dvele’s airtight drywall specification calls for a specific joint compound and tape to maintain the air barrier. Tile, cabinetry, baseboard, interior doors, and paint can be sourced from quality trade brands that match or exceed the original spec. We use KraftMaid and Wellborn cabinetry, Cambria and Silestone countertops, and Kohler fixtures where a Dvele-branded equivalent isn’t available or isn’t the best value. We’ll be honest when a panel, a window unit, or a piece of the ventilation system needs full replacement rather than a patch. In a high-performance house, a patch that leaves a seam in the wrong place is worse than no patch at all.
If you’re unsure whether a specific repair is warranty-relevant, call (619) 604-9624 and we’ll talk through it. The estimate is free.
Our Dvele Service Process – Step by Step
- 1
Diagnosis. We walk the home with you and listen to what you’ve noticed: a draft, a smell, a crack, a warning light. Then we look at the assembly. We check the panel joints, the cladding fasteners, the ERV filters, and the seal at the slab line. On Dvele homes, we often run a blower door test or thermal imaging to find leaks that aren’t visible. The diagnosis fee is applied to the repair if you move forward.
- 2
Written price, not a ballpark. You get a written line-item price before we cut anything. This is the Kingswell standard: the number on day one is the number on the invoice. No change orders because we didn’t know what we’d find. If our diagnosis was wrong and we discover something different behind the wall, we stop and call you before proceeding.
- 3
Repair or install. We use Dvele parts on the envelope, Dvele-compatible materials on the interior, and brand-name finishes from KraftMaid, Cambria, Silestone, and Kohler where appropriate. Our technicians are background-checked and uniformed. You know exactly who is walking into your home.
- 4
Test and verify. After any envelope repair, we re-pressurize the zone or run a blower door test to confirm the air barrier is actually sealed. For ERV work, we rebalance the airflow and confirm the sensors clear. You get the numbers before we leave.
- 5
Warranty in writing. Every job carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the work fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. If a repair fails, the second visit is free too: no service call fee, no re-inspection fee. This promise is on every invoice in plain English.

AfterDvele Products We Service & Install in San Diego

Our crews work across the Dvele series: Dvele IQ for its all-electric, high-efficiency envelope; Dvele Adapt for its modular flexibility; Dvele Luxe for its larger spans and rain-screen cladding; and Dvele Origin for its entry-level panelized system. Each series has different detailing at the panel joints, different cladding attachment methods, and slightly different air-barrier taping specs. The IQ and Adapt share many parts, which helps with lead times. Luxe hardware and cladding components usually need to come from Dvele’s warehouse directly. We keep a small inventory of the consumables that fail most often in San Diego: ERV filters, seam tapes, sill-seal strips, and the right fasteners for marine-exposed cladding.
We also take on Dvele-compatible additions and remodels: a kitchen remodel that respects the air barrier and doesn’t punch random holes in the envelope, a roof replacement that matches the original standing-seam metal spec, or an ADU in Dvele’s panelized style that integrates with your existing systems.
We Also Service These Brands
Penhallow Remodeling San Diego is not a single-brand shop. We’re a General Contractor that happens to know Dvele assemblies cold. We install and service kitchens and baths built around KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria and Silestone countertops, and Kohler fixtures. The same written-price, written-guarantee standard applies no matter what brand is in your home.
FAQs – Dvele Construction Service in San Diego
Yes, if the remodel respects the air barrier and panel detailing. The risky part of any Dvele kitchen remodel is cutting into exterior walls or the ceiling plenum. The safe approach is to leave the envelope intact, route electrical and plumbing inside the interior partition walls, and use Dvele-compatible cabinetry that doesn’t require structural modifications. We’ve done this on Dvele IQ and Adapt homes throughout San Diego. We’ll give you a written scope that explains exactly which walls we’re touching and how we’re protecting the enclosure. Call (619) 604-9624 for a free estimate.
That draft is almost always an air leak at the slab-to-panel joint or a gap in the bottom plate seal, not an HRV problem. The HRV brings in fresh air through registers near the ceiling; it doesn’t create a floor-level draft. When we hear about a draft near a kitchen island in a slab-on-grade Dvele, we pull the baseboard or the island toe-kick and inspect the sill seal. In at least half the cases, we find a folded or pinched factory seal. The fix is quick: cut in a new sill-seal strip, tape the air barrier, and re-test the zone. It’s a few hours of labor, not a new HVAC system.
For any repair on a Dvele exterior wall, we use factory-sourced Dvele panels and Dvele flashing. The panel profile, the attachment clips, and the drainage plane are proprietary. A generic fiber-cement panel won’t lap correctly, won’t seal correctly, and will create a path for wind-driven rain. We order the real Dvele part and we wait for it. The only exception is interior finish material where Dvele parts aren’t part of the structural or enclosure spec.
Yes. ADU construction is one of our core services in San Diego. If you want the new unit to match your Dvele home’s envelope performance, we’ll build it to the same panelized spec: continuous air barrier, high-performance glazing, ERV or HRV ventilation, and all-electric systems. San Diego’s ADU rules allow detached units up to 1,200 square feet on most single-family lots. A Dvele-style detached ADU in San Diego typically ranges from $106,200 to $259,600 depending on size, site preparation, and systems. If you want a simpler stick-built ADU that just matches the exterior cladding, that’s also an option. Call (619) 604-9624 and we’ll walk the lot with you.
Carefully, and with the panel schematic open. Dvele’s Dvele IQ system routes sensor wiring and low-voltage lines through factory-installed channels in the wall panels. You can’t just cut a panel and expect the wiring to be elsewhere. Before we open any bathroom wall in a Dvele IQ or Adapt home, we trace the wiring paths, shut down the affected circuits, and plan the new fixture locations to avoid cutting into the panel channels. When a cut is unavoidable, we re-route using surface-mount channels inside the wall cavity and re-seal the air barrier per Dvele’s detailing. We’ve remodeled Dvele bathrooms where the mirror defogger circuit and the shower steam sensor both ran through the shared wall with the vanity. You don’t want to find that with a Sawzall.
The numbers below reflect what we charge for Dvele-specific work in San Diego. These are written-price ranges, not online estimates that shift when the crew shows up.
| Dvele Service | San Diego Price Range |
|---|---|
| Whole-home air seal and blower door test for a Dvele panel joint | $945 – $2,950 |
| Kitchen remodel with Dvele-compatible cabinetry | $16,520 – $53,100 |
| Standing seam metal roof to match Dvele original specs | $17,700 – $47,200 |
| ERV filter replacement and airflow rebalance | $295 – $825 |
Where you live in San Diego changes the price. Coastal properties in La Jolla or Coronado often need marine-grade fasteners and extra corrosion protection, which adds 5 to 10 percent. Canyon-adjacent lots in Mission Hills or Bankers Hill can require slope access equipment or deeper foundation work. Dvele in El Cajon and inland homes in Rancho Bernardo or Poway tend to have simpler site conditions but wider temperature swings that affect caulking and joint materials. We’ll give you an exact written quote for your address. Call (619) 604-9624 to schedule it.
