CWS Kitchen Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
If you have a CWS kitchen and something’s failing, we stock and install CWS-compatible components across San Diego, with full kitchen remodels typically running $16,520 – $53,100 depending on cabinet line, countertop material, and layout. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a drawer front loosens, a hinge sags, a cabinet box starts pulling away from the wall, or a countertop seam opens up near the sink. Sometimes it’s a single part. Sometimes it’s the first sign the whole kitchen is tired. Either way, you want a straight answer about what it costs to fix, and whether it’s worth patching or replacing.
We’re an independent San Diego remodeling contractor, not affiliated with CWS, but we work with their cabinetry and hardware regularly. That means we know which parts interchange, which ones don’t, and when a repair stops making financial sense.
Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS cabinetry spans several series lines, and the compatibility picture gets specific fast. The hinge bore pattern (the drilled holes on the inside of the cabinet door) is the first thing we check. CWS doors typically use either a standard 35mm cup hinge or a compact 26mm cup on narrower stiles, and the two are not interchangeable. If you order a 35mm hinge for a 26mm bore, the door won’t sit flush, and you’ll chase the problem forever.
Drawer slides are the second gotcha. CWS uses both side-mount and under-mount slides depending on the series and year. Side-mount slides need accurate drawer box width; under-mount slides need a specific drawer bottom notch, usually 1/2-inch inset. A slide that’s even 1/4-inch off will bind or let the drawer tip forward when extended.
When we come out, we look for the cabinet sticker inside the sink base or on the back of a drawer box. That gives us the series, finish code, and sometimes the original order number. If the sticker’s gone, measurements decide. We also carry KraftMaid and Wellborn hardware on our trucks because their hinge and slide patterns often match CWS specs. Cambria and Silestone don’t overlap with CWS parts directly, but we mention them because if your countertop failed along with the cabinet, you’re choosing a replacement surface anyway, and both carry their own warranties alongside ours.

Signs Your CWS Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Cabinet door won’t stay closed or hangs crooked. This is almost always a worn hinge, not the door itself. The spring inside the hinge loses tension over years of use, especially on high-cycle doors like the one under the sink. A $15 – $40 hinge is a far better fix than replacing the door.
- Drawer sticks, squeals, or drops when you pull it out. The ball bearings inside the slide wear out, usually on the drawer you open most: the utensil drawer. You can clean and lubricate a mild case, but once the bearing cage breaks, the slide is done. Replacement is straightforward and inexpensive when the slide matches the box.
- Cabinet box pulling away from the wall or settling at an angle. This is structural, not cosmetic. It usually means the mounting screws were driven into drywall without hitting studs, or the screws pulled loose over time. San Diego’s coastal humidity swings can soften drywall anchors in older homes, especially in Point Loma or Ocean Beach. This one needs a real fix: proper stud anchoring and possibly shimming.
- Countertop seam opening or dark staining around the sink. CWS installed a lot of laminate and solid-surface tops in San Diego kitchens built in the 1990s and 2000s. The seam at the sink is where water sits, and once moisture gets into the substrate (the layer under the surface), the top swells. A swollen edge doesn’t usually go back. It’s a replacement conversation, and it’s worth pricing quartz while you’re at it.
- Soft-close mechanisms stop working. Many CWS lines used add-on soft-close dampers on hinges or slides. The damper is a small cylinder that catches the door before it slams. When it fails, the door still functions, but it slams. Replacement dampers are cheap and quick to swap, provided we match the mount style.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what you can expect to pay in San Diego for CWS-related kitchen work. The range depends on whether we’re swapping a single part or rebuilding the kitchen around what’s still good.
- Single hinge or slide replacement: $45 – $120 installed, including the part and the trip. If it’s a hardware-only repair and we’re already in the neighborhood, we’ll tell you that upfront.
- Cabinet door or drawer front replacement: $150 – $450 per door, depending on wood species and finish matching. We order from the same finish families where possible; sometimes a custom match is required when the sun has faded the original.
- Cabinet box repair or re-anchoring: $250 – $800. Includes pulling the cabinet, locating studs, re-mounting with proper fasteners, and re-levelling. We don’t patch drywall, but we leave the site clean and tell you what the wall needs before we start.
- Full kitchen remodel with CWS-compatible cabinetry: $16,520 – $53,100. That’s the real San Diego range in 2026. The number moves based on cabinet line, countertop material, whether we’re moving plumbing or electrical, and how much of the old kitchen has to come out before the new one goes in.
Every quote is written, not verbal. The number on your estimate is the number on the invoice unless you change scope, and we don’t change scope without telling you the new price first. Every job includes our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s in writing on every project, not just the big ones.
DIY or Call Us?
Cabinet hardware, drawer slides, and hinge swaps are the kind of thing a careful homeowner can sometimes handle on a Saturday afternoon. The honest split is this: if the failure is isolated to one hinge, one slide, or one door, and the cabinet box is still solid, a $20 part and a screwdriver might sort it out. Watch for one thing though: if the original holes are stripped, driving a bigger screw or filling the hole with toothpicks and glue will fail again. The cabinet door will sag, the hinge will bind, and you’ll be back where you started.
Where DIY goes wrong is the structural side. A cabinet box pulling from the wall, a countertop that’s swallowed water, a sink base that’s gone soft, those are not screwdriver fixes. You’re dealing with weight, moisture, and load paths. That’s the work we trained for. Trevor Nash grew up in Los Angeles and learned framing and finish work at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before running remodeling crews across San Diego for the better part of two decades. We’ve fixed enough badly-anchored cabinets in Mission Hills and North Park to know what’s behind the wall before we touch it. If you’re not sure whether your problem is a part swap or something deeper, call (619) 604-9624. Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there.
FAQs

CWS cabinets installed in San Diego generally last 20 – 30 years on the boxes, but hinges, slides, and soft-close dampers wear out far sooner, usually between 8 and 15 years depending on kitchen traffic. Coastal humidity in areas like Ocean Beach and La Jolla accelerates swelling in laminated tops and edge banding, so anything near the sink or dishwasher may show wear earlier than cabinets in inland neighborhoods like Clairemont or Rancho Bernardo.
In most cases, yes. A single cabinet box can be re-anchored, re-leveled, and fitted with new hardware for far less than a full replacement, provided the wood itself hasn’t rotted or delaminated. We’ll tell you straight whether repair is worth it or whether you’re better off putting that money toward a larger remodel. Call (619) 604-9624 and we’ll come take a look before you spend anything.
A single hinge, slide, or damper swap usually takes 30 – 60 minutes once we’re on site. Cabinet re-anchoring or box repair is a half-day to a full day. A full kitchen remodel runs 4 – 12 weeks depending on scope, cabinet lead time, and whether permits are required for electrical or plumbing changes.
We carry common hinge sizes, drawer slides, and soft-close dampers on our trucks because those cover most CWS series and also match KraftMaid and Wellborn patterns. Door fronts, drawer boxes, and finish-matched panels are usually ordered to spec, which takes 1 – 3 weeks depending on the supplier and finish code. Call (619) 604-9624 with your cabinet sticker information and we’ll tell you what’s in stock before we even schedule the visit.
