Blanco Driveway & Pavers: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
If you have a Blanco driveway or paver system with a failing part, we can help. Penhallow Remodeling San Diego stocks and installs Blanco-compatible driveway and paver components, with typical installed replacement costs in San Diego running $295 to $825 for sealing-related fixes and $5,310 to $21,240 for full paver driveway installations depending on square footage and base condition. Most owners discover a problem the way you probably did: a paver that’s sunk half an inch, a drain channel pulling away, or a surface that holds water in a spot it never used to.
We’re an independent San Diego contractor, not affiliated with Blanco. That means we source Blanco-compatible components and match them to your existing layout without pushing a proprietary upcharge.
Which Blanco Models This Applies To

Blanco’s driveway and paver line spans three series the San Diego market sees most: the Blanco Standard (80mm depth, modular rectangular), Blanco XL (100mm depth, larger format for driveway traffic), and Blanco Permeable (80mm with wider joint gaps for drainage). Each uses a different joint width and base depth spec, which is the first compatibility gotcha we run into. A Standard paver dropped into an XL layout leaves a lip that catches tires and cracks edges within a season.
To identify your part, flip a loose paver and look for the embossed code. Blanco stamps a two-letter series code plus the year on the underside. If that’s worn away, measure the depth: 80mm means Standard or Permeable, 100mm means XL. Aftermarket equivalents from Belgard and Unilock come within a millimeter or two on dimensions, but color matching is where OEM matters. Blanco’s San Diego distribution runs in specific dye lots. We stock Blanco-compatible replacements in the three most common local colorways: coastal gray, mesa tan, and charcoal blend. For anything custom, we order direct and it lands within five business days.
The short version: if your pavers are 80mm and you’re replacing a section, aftermarket works fine. If you’re matching color on a visible driveway apron, go Blanco.

Signs Your Blanco Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Standing water after a light rain. This is almost always a base problem, not a paver problem. In San Diego’s clay-heavy soils east of the 805, water pools when the compacted base has eroded or settled. The paver is fine; what’s underneath it is not.
- One paver sits low by a quarter inch or more. You’ve got a failed spot in the base or a broken edge. In coastal San Diego neighborhoods like Point Loma, salt air accelerates joint sand loss, which lets pavers shift.
- Edge pavers pulling away from the border or curb. The edge restraint has failed. Without it, the entire field starts walking outward. This is the most common preventable failure we see in San Diego driveways, and it is always cheaper to fix early.
- Crumbling or flaking paver surfaces. Blanco pavers are dense concrete and shouldn’t spall, but repeated exposure to de-icing salts (rare here, more common in the mountains near Julian) or pressure washing at close range can damage the surface layer.
- Joint sand washing out after every rain. Permeable layouts are designed for water to pass through, but if you’re losing sand from a Standard or XL layout, the joint sand wasn’t compacted properly at install. This one is a $300 to $500 fix if caught early, and a full base rebuild if not.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In San Diego, paver driveway installation runs $8,260 to $21,240 depending on square footage, access, and whether the existing base is salvageable. If you’re replacing a section rather than the whole driveway, most partial repairs land between $1,500 and $4,500. Paver patio installation runs $4,130 to $12,980, and driveway sealing runs $295 to $825.
Every repair we quote includes the parts, labor, base work if needed, joint sand, compaction, and haul-away of old material. You get a written price before any work starts. If we find something unexpected under the surface, we stop and talk to you before another dollar is spent. The work carries our written 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No service call fee, no re-inspection fee. That’s what “no change orders” means when we say it.
DIY or Call Us?
For a single sunken paver, you can lift it, add a bit of base material, and reset it yourself. That’s honest. What goes wrong in San Diego is when homeowners try to fix edge restraints or a failing base without compacting properly. A hand tamper doesn’t match a plate compactor, and a base that wasn’t compacted in lifts will settle again within months. You’ll redo the job twice and spend more than the original repair would have cost.
If you’re dealing with a drainage problem, edge failure, or more than a handful of pavers, give us a call. I’ve spent two decades running crews across San Diego, from compact condo driveways in Mission Hills to full paver layouts near Balboa Park, and the pattern is always the same: the earlier you catch base failure, the cheaper the fix. FAQs

Blanco pavers typically last 25 to 40 years in San Diego’s climate, but the base underneath decides whether you get the high or low end of that range. Coastal salt air and clay soil movement are the two local factors that shorten lifespan, and both attack the base and joints more than the paver itself.
Yes, most failures are repairable when caught before the base washes out completely. Section replacement, edge restraint rebuilds, and joint sand restoration are routine jobs. The honest answer is that if pavers are shifting across a large area, the base failed and a partial fix won’t hold. Call (619) 604-9624 and we’ll tell you which situation you have.
Most section repairs and single-paver resets are done in one day. A full paver driveway installation in San Diego usually takes three to five working days depending on access and the condition of the existing base. You’ll have a defined arrival window before we start, and the price is written down before day one.
We keep Blanco-compatible replacements in the three most common San Diego colorways on hand: coastal gray, mesa tan, and charcoal blend. Custom dye lots are a special order that lands within five business days. We’ll confirm the match against your existing pavers before we schedule any work.
