American Standard Kitchen Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide

If you own a kitchen with American Standard fixtures and the sink is cracked, the faucet is leaking, or the counters are showing their age, we can help match your replacement parts and handle the full remodel. A complete American Standard kitchen remodel in San Diego typically runs $16,520 to $53,100, depending on cabinet line, countertop material, and whether you’re keeping your existing layout. Most owners discover a failed part through a slow drip that won’t stop, a sink basin that’s chipped through the enamel, or a counter seam that’s pulling apart after years of coastal humidity.

We’re Penhallow Remodeling San Diego, an independent remodeling contractor. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a distributor for American Standard. We do, however, work with American Standard fixtures and parts every week, and we source from the same trade suppliers that carry genuine OEM components alongside quality aftermarket options.

Which American Standard Models This Applies To

A walk-in pantry with wood shelving

American Standard has released dozens of kitchen sink and faucet lines over the years, and the compatibility rules vary by series. The most common lines we see in San Diego kitchens are the Colony, Reliant, Studio, and Pekoe faucet families, along with the Americast, Silhouette, and undermount stainless sink basins. If you’re not sure what you have, there’s usually a model number stamped on the faucet body under the sink deck or etched into the underside of the sink rim.

One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: American Standard faucet cartridges are not interchangeable across series. A Colony cartridge will not fit a Reliant body, even if both are single-handle kitchen faucets. The stem length, spline count, and seal geometry are different. When we order OEM cartridges, we match the exact model number and revision. When OEM is backordered or discontinued, we’ll recommend a specific aftermarket equivalent that carries at least a one-year mechanical warranty, and we’ll tell you the difference in writing before we order it.

The same rule applies to sink strainers and basket assemblies. The thread pitch on an American Standard strainer is not universal. Cross-threading an aftermarket strainer into an Americast sink is a fast way to crack the porcelain around the drain opening. We’ve seen it happen in Pacific Beach and Clairemont more than once, usually after a homeowner or a handyman tried to save twenty dollars on a generic basket.

Signs Your American Standard Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Faucet drips from the spout even when the handle is tight. This almost always means the ceramic disc cartridge is worn or scored. In San Diego’s hard water, mineral buildup accelerates disc wear, so a cartridge that might last eight years elsewhere often fails in five or six here.
  • Water pools around the base of the faucet after every use. That’s usually a failed O-ring or a cracked deck seal, not the cartridge. Left alone, water gets under the deck and starts damaging the cabinet below, which turns a $90 seal replacement into a $500 cabinet repair.
  • Porcelain or enamel chips along the sink rim with rust showing underneath. Americast sinks have a durable enamel layer, but once it chips, water reaches the composite core. Chips near the drain are repairable with an enamel kit. Chips along the faucet deck or on the basin floor usually mean the sink is done.
  • The counter seam near the sink is pulling apart or lifting. This is common in San Diego kitchens where the sink was under-mounted after the counters were installed. The adhesive loses grip under repeated wet-dry cycles, and once the seam opens, water gets under the stone. That’s a remodel-level repair, not a caulk-and-pray situation.
  • The cabinet floor under the sink is soft, swollen, or smells musty. By the time the floor softens, the leak has been running for months. The cabinet base usually needs replacement, and that means pulling the sink and counter to do it properly.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled kitchen with a waterfall island and wood cabinets

For San Diego kitchens, a fixture and surface replacement with American Standard components typically falls between $16,520 and $53,100. The range is wide because the job can be as small as a sink, faucet, and counter swap in a galley kitchen or as large as a full cabinet teardown in a Mission Hills or La Jolla home. Here’s how the line items break down:

  • Countertop installation: $2,360 to $7,670, depending on material and square footage.
  • Cabinet installation: $4,720 to $15,340 for a typical 10×10 kitchen, more for custom sizing.
  • Backsplash installation: $945 to $2,950 including tile and setting materials.
  • Kitchen island installation: $3,540 to $11,800 if you’re adding or replacing an island.
  • Sink and faucet replacement as part of the job: typically $400 to $1,200 in labor, plus parts.

Every number we hand you is a written price before any work starts. Not a range on a napkin. A written line-item price you can hold us to. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the workmanship on every project we do, and if something we installed fails inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s in writing, on every job.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely do a few things yourself: identify the model number, take photos of the failed part, and shut off the water under the sink if you have a leak. Those steps help us quote accurately over the phone. What you should not do is attempt a faucet cartridge replacement on a hard-water-damaged body or try to remove an American Standard basket strainer from an Americast sink without the right tool. Both jobs go wrong fast, and the damage usually costs more than the service call would have.

Counter and cabinet work is not a weekend project. Setting a stone top requires a level cabinet line, the right adhesive, and precise seam work. Getting it wrong means a cracked slab or a seam that opens in six months. If you want the honest breakdown of what the job takes, call us at (619) 604-9624. Trevor Nash will tell you what you need, tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there.
