Abodu Kitchen Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
If you own an Abodu home in San Diego and the kitchen is starting to show its age, we can help. A full Abodu kitchen remodel in San Diego typically runs $16,520 – $53,100, though smaller refreshes like cabinet replacement or new countertops land between $2,360 and $15,340 depending on scope. Most owners call us when one specific element fails first: a delaminating cabinet door, a crack running across the countertop, or a sink flange that’s been leaking into the base cabinet for months. We’re an independent San Diego remodeling company, not affiliated with Abodu, but we’ve worked on enough of their homes to know exactly what’s behind those walls and under those counters.
Which Abodu Models This Applies To
Abodu homes in San Diego, whether they’re the one-bedroom or two-bedroom ADU layouts, share a consistent kitchen footprint, which makes remodeling more predictable than in a custom home. The cabinetry in most Abodu units we’ve opened up is modular and dimensionally close to standard 30-inch and 36-inch base cabinet widths, but here’s the gotcha: Abodu often specs cabinets at 34½ inches tall from floor to countertop, not the 36-inch standard you’ll find at big-box stores. That means off-the-shelf replacement doors won’t always line up, and new upper cabinets need filler strips or custom adjustment to sit flush against Abodu’s specific wall framing. For countertops, Abodu kitchens typically use a laminate or solid-surface top cut to a 25½-inch depth, which is slightly shallower than the 26-inch standard. If you’re replacing countertops, we account for that so your overhang doesn’t look wrong.

Signs Your Abodu Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Cabinet doors won’t stay closed or hang crooked: Abodu cabinet hinges are often mounted into particleboard side panels. Once the screw holes strip out, the door sags, and the fix isn’t a new hinge, it’s rebuilding the panel or adding reinforcement plates.
- Countertop edge is chipping or delaminating: Laminate tops in San Diego’s dry, warm climate can separate at the seams, especially near the sink where repeated water exposure weakens the adhesive line over time.
- Sink area feels soft or the faucet wobbles: If the countertop around the sink has swelled or feels spongy, water has gotten into the substrate, the moisture-resistant layer under the surface. By the time you feel it, the material underneath is usually compromised.
- Drawer slides grind or stick: Abodu kitchens get heavy daily use, and lower-quality slide hardware wears out fast. You’ll notice drawers that don’t close flush or require a hard shove.
- Backsplash tiles cracking or grout falling out: This often comes from interior wall movement, not bad tile work. Smaller ADUs can shift slightly with San Diego’s temperature swings, and brittle grout is the first thing to go.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s how the numbers break down in San Diego, based on what we’ve actually quoted over the past few years:
- Kitchen Remodel (full): $16,520 – $53,100
- Small Kitchen Remodel: $10,620 – $23,600
- Cabinet Installation: $4,720 – $15,340
- Countertop Installation: $2,360 – $7,670
- Backsplash Installation: $945 – $2,950
- Kitchen Island Installation: $3,540 – $11,800
The spread comes down to three things: cabinet line (we install KraftMaid and Wellborn, both of which hold up better in coastal air than stock import boxes), countertop material (Cambria quartz carries its own lifetime warranty alongside our 365-Day Done Right Promise), and whether we’re opening walls to add electrical or move plumbing. Every quote is written, not verbal, and the number you see before work starts is the number on the invoice. No change orders for things we should have caught in the walkthrough.
DIY or Call Us?
Honest answer: you can check a lot of things yourself. Pull every drawer out, look at the slide hardware, press on the area around the sink to feel for soft spots, and open every cabinet door to see which ones hang straight. What you shouldn’t do is cut into a countertop or attempt to re-support a cabinet box without understanding what’s behind it. Abodu walls are engineered efficiently, which means stud spacing and utility chases don’t always follow conventional framing patterns. A misplaced saw cut or screw can nick plumbing or wiring, and that turns a $500 repair into a $4,000 one. If any part of the remodel involves electrical, plumbing, or structural work, call us at (619) 604-9624 before you touch anything. Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there.
FAQs

Most Abodu kitchen remodels in San Diego take 2 – 4 weeks, depending on whether we’re replacing cabinets and countertops only or opening walls for electrical and plumbing work. Countertop templating and fabrication adds about a week, and we give you a written schedule with a defined arrival window before demo day.
In many cases, yes. Hinges can be moved, panels can be reinforced, and drawer hardware can be swapped for better slides. If the cabinet boxes themselves are swollen or the particleboard has crumbled, repair doesn’t make sense, and replacement is the honest recommendation. Call (619) 604-9624 and we’ll tell you which path applies to your kitchen.
We don’t keep Abodu-specific parts collecting dust on a shelf, because the right answer depends on your home’s exact dimensions and current condition. What we do keep is deep relationships with KraftMaid, Wellborn, Cambria, and Silestone suppliers in San Diego, which means we can usually have materials ordered within 48 hours and installed within the schedule we give you up front.
No. We write the price before any work begins, and that’s the price you pay. The only exception is if you ask us to add scope, like deciding you want an island after we’ve already started or discovering something during demo that no contractor could have seen beforehand. Even then, you approve any additional amount in writing before we proceed.
If your Abodu kitchen in San Diego needs work, call (619) 604-9624 for a free estimate. We’ll walk the space with you, point out exactly what’s failing and what it will cost, and put the number in writing before a single cabinet is pulled.
