Cover Kitchen Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide

If your Cover kitchen remodel has a failed cabinet hinge, a warped drawer front, a cracked countertop seam, or a backsplash tile that’s separated from the wall, we stock the replacement parts and install them for a typical range of $180 – $950 depending on what failed and how far the damage spread. Most Cover-specific hardware and finish components are available to us same week, and we can usually have a technician out to San Diego homes within a few days of your call. You’ll notice the failure first in daily use: a cabinet door that won’t stay closed, a drawer that scrapes when you open it, a seam in the quartz that’s caught your sponge more than once, or grout that’s flaking into the silverware drawer below.

Which Cover Models This Applies To

An open kitchen and dining area after a remodel

Cover isn’t a single kitchen line, it’s a design-and-install approach. That means the parts behind your remodel depend on which Cover installer handled the job and which cabinet, countertop, and hardware series went in. We see Cover kitchens in San Diego built on KraftMaid and Wellborn cabinet boxes most often, with Cambria and Silestone tops, and that’s useful because those brands keep their specs consistent. The compatibility gotcha is this: a KraftMaid hinge from 2016 will not fit a 2021 Wellborn door, even if both kitchens came from a Cover installer. The part number on the hinge cup or drawer slide matters more than the Cover name on the paperwork.

When you call, have a photo of the failed part and a shot of the label inside the cabinet door or under the countertop overhang. That label tells us the series, the finish code, and sometimes the exact install date. For countertops, Cambria and Silestone each have their own seam and edge profiles, so a repair on one is not interchangeable with the other. And to be clear before we go further: Penhallow Remodeling San Diego is an independent contractor. We’re not affiliated with Cover, and we don’t claim to be. We’re just the crew local owners call when a Cover kitchen starts showing its age and the original installer isn’t picking up.

Signs Your Cover Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Cabinet doors that drift open or won’t stay closed. The self-close function in the hinge has worn out, or the mounting plate has loosened from the cabinet box. Left alone, the door starts rubbing the adjacent door and wearing the finish off both.
  • Drawers that scrape, stick, or drop on one side. This is almost always a failed drawer slide, usually the ball-bearing type where one race has cracked. A drawer that drops is chewing through the soft-close mechanism every time you open it.
  • A countertop seam you can feel with a fingernail. In San Diego’s coastal humidity swings, quartz seams expand and contract. Once you can feel the seam, the adhesive has begun to fail and the crack will only widen. Delaying the fix lets moisture into the substrate below.
  • Loose or cracked backsplash tiles, especially behind the sink. The mastic or thin-set behind the tile has lost its bond, often from years of splash exposure. Tap the tiles with a knuckle: a hollow sound means the bond is gone and the tile is one dish-bump away from falling.
  • Cabinet finish that’s hazy, peeling, or bubbling near the cooktop or dishwasher. Heat and steam break down the conversion varnish over time. Once moisture gets under the finish, sanding and refinishing is the only fix that lasts.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A galley kitchen opened up to the dining room with a new peninsula

For a Cover kitchen repair in San Diego, you’re looking at these ranges depending on what failed:

  • Cabinet hardware replacement (hinges, slides, pulls): $180 – $420 per cabinet or drawer bank, parts included
  • Cabinet door or drawer front replacement: $220 – $550 per door, depending on finish matching
  • Countertop seam repair: $300 – $650 per seam, including color-matched adhesive and polish
  • Backsplash tile repair (up to 10 tiles): $280 – $700, including substrate repair if needed
  • Cabinet refinishing (full kitchen): $2,360 – $7,670, matching the original Cover finish if a code is available

What drives the range is finish matching and substrate condition. A hinge swap is fast. Matching a 2019 Wellborn “Shaker Cherry” stain on a door that’s been sun-faded near a Mission Hills window takes time and testing. Every repair gets a written price before we touch anything, and every repair carries the Penhallow 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge, and we’ll put that in writing on the invoice.

DIY or Call Us?

Replacing a cabinet pull or adjusting a hinge tension screw is fair game for a careful homeowner with a Phillips head. A sagging drawer slide is also doable if you can read the part number and order the exact match. That’s where it stops for most people. The dangerous territory isn’t the hardware itself, it’s the finish. A countertop seam repair requires color-matched adhesive and polishing compounds that are brand-specific to Cambria or Silestone, and one wrong grout color in a backsplash patch is a permanently visible mistake. If the repair touches anything structural, like a cabinet box that’s pulling away from the wall or a substrate that’s water-damaged behind the tile, that’s not a weekend job, that’s a rebuild. If you’re unsure whether your repair is surface or structural, call (619) 604-9624 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you straight whether it’s a $12 part or a crew visit, and we won’t charge you for the answer.
