Boral Fence Installation: The San Diego Owner’s Guide

Boral fence installation in San Diego typically runs $4,130 – $10,620 for a full perimeter or side-yard run, installed with concrete-set posts and Boral’s engineered composite pickets. We stock Boral-compatible hardware and pickets on the truck for most common Boral fence profiles, so a sagging gate or blown-out post can often be corrected in a single visit. Most homeowners discover the problem the way you did: a gate that won’t close, a post leaning after rain, or pickets that have started to cup and pull away from the rails.

Boral isn’t vinyl and it isn’t wood. It’s a mineral-reinforced composite that behaves differently in San Diego’s dry heat and wet winters than either of its cousins. That difference matters when it comes to installation, and it matters when it comes time to repair. If you’ve got a Boral fence that’s failing, the fix usually costs less than you fear, but only if the person doing the work knows how the material moves. We do.

Key Takeaways:

  • Full Boral fence installation in San Diego: $4,130 – $10,620 installed
  • Single-post or gate repair: usually $470 – $1,180, part and labor included
  • We carry Boral-compatible pickets, rails, and post hardware on the truck
  • Written price before work starts, 365-Day Done Right Promise on every job
  • Call (619) 604-9624 for a free estimate, usually within one business day

Which Boral Models This Applies To

A whole-home remodel with the living, dining and kitchen areas opened up

Boral fence products fall into a few families: the classic Boral “American Classic” picket profiles, the broader Boral TimberTech composite lines, and Boral’s post-and-rail systems built for California’s mandatory 6-foot privacy height. If you’re not sure which series you have, look at the bottom edge of a picket. Boral embeds its name and a date code on most profiles. The easier tell is weight: a Boral picket is noticeably heavier than vinyl and has a matte, almost stone-like surface rather than a gloss.

The compatibility gotcha in San Diego is this: Boral’s proprietary tongue-and-groove pickets seat into their matching bottom rail channel, and a generic big-box picket won’t seat into that channel without a fight. If a handyman tells you they can “just match it,” confirm they’re using Boral-compatible stock, not a generic. We use Boral’s own pickets and rails, or quality aftermarket equivalents that match the profile spec exactly. We don’t cobble mismatched material together. That’s how you end up back here in six months.

We also keep Boral post caps, post skirts, and gate hardware kits in the truck, because those small pieces fail more often than the panel material itself. The salt air in Ocean Beach and Point Loma rusts cheap gate hinges faster than anything, and Boral’s aluminum hardware holds up far longer than the coated steel hardware sold at home centers.

Signs Your Boral Fence Installation Is Failing

  • The gate drags or won’t latch. Boral gates are heavy. When the post shifts even a quarter inch, the latch stops lining up. The cause is almost always a post set in shallow concrete or in soil that’s loosened during our wet winter months. San Diego clay expands when wet and contracts when dry. That cycle works a post out of the ground over time.
  • A post leans after rain. A Boral post set in less than 18 inches of concrete will lean within two or three years in our soil. Deeper isn’t always better; drainage matters more than depth if water pools at the base. We set Boral posts in 24 inches of concrete with gravel drainage beneath, which is overkill for a wood fence and exactly right for this material.
  • Pickets are cupping or pulling away from the rail. Boral expands and contracts with temperature. If the original installer set pickets too tight to each other, they bulge in the summer heat. If they gapped them wrong, the bottom rail channel loses its grip. Either way, the panel needs a reset, not a replacement of the whole run.
  • The panel sags between posts. Boral is mineral-filled and weighs more per panel than vinyl or cedar. If the rails aren’t the correct heavy-gauge Boral rail, or the posts are spaced too far apart, the panel sags. We see this most often when homeowners install prefab panels and set posts at eight feet instead of Boral’s recommended six feet on center.
  • The bottom rail sits in water. Boral holds up to ground contact better than wood, but constant water against the bottom rail shortens the life of any fence. If your sprinkler sprays the fence line, that’s a fix we address at installation, because the warranty argument with any manufacturer starts there.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Boral fence installation in San Diego runs $4,130 – $10,620 depending on linear feet, gate count, post spacing, and whether we’re pulling an old fence or working with a clean line. The lower end covers a modest side yard, around 40 – 60 feet with one gate. The upper end covers a full backyard perimeter with multiple gates, a sloped grade, and old fence removal.

What pushes the number up: slope. San Diego backyards in Clairemont, Scripps Ranch, and La Jolla are rarely flat. A stepped fence on a grade means more posts, more cuts, and more time. What pushes it down: a clean, accessible fence line with soft soil and no old concrete to demo.

Every quote is written, line-itemed, and includes labor, materials, concrete, and disposal. The number you approve before we start is the number on the final invoice. No change orders, no surprise “soil conditions” fee. If Boral materials go up between your quote and install day, we eat the difference. That’s the Kingswell Way, and it’s been the rule here since 2004.

Our work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if any part of the fence fails within a year of installation due to our workmanship, we return and make it right at no charge. Materials are covered by Boral’s manufacturer warranty where applicable.

DIY or Call Us?

Boral fence work is not high-tension and it won’t hurt you the way a garage spring or electrical panel will. But it is heavy, and the mistakes that come from doing it yourself are expensive to undo. A Boral panel weighs enough that setting it alone is a back injury waiting to happen. And if a post isn’t set with proper drainage, you’ll be digging it out again in two years.

Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there. If you want to replace a single warped picket and the post is sound, that’s a job most homeowners can handle with a drill, a level, and an afternoon. If the post is moving, if the gate won’t latch, or if the bottom rail is sitting in mud, call us at (619) 604-9624. That’s a fix we do right the first time, and we stand behind it in writing.
