Atlas Kitchen Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
If you have an Atlas kitchen and something’s failed, we stock the replacement parts and do the install work, typically running $16,520 to $53,100 for a full kitchen remodel in San Diego, with individual repairs like cabinet hardware, drawer glides, or a cracked countertop landing well below that. Most owners find us the day a drawer won’t close or a hinge finally gives out after years of salt air and daily use. We’re an independent San Diego contractor, not affiliated with Atlas, but we know their cabinet lines, hardware specs, and the common failure points that show up in coastal kitchens.
Before you tear anything out, let’s identify exactly what you’re working with and what it’ll take to make it right.
Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Atlas kitchens in San Diego cover a few distinct cabinet lines, and the hardware isn’t always interchangeable between them. The most common ones we see are the Atlas Meridian line (full-overlay doors, soft-close hinges, 5/8″ drawer boxes) and the older Atlas Classic line, which used standard overlay hinges and 1/2″ drawer construction. If you’re not sure which you have, open a door and look at the hinge cup: Meridian hinges are stamped with a small “M” inside the cup, while Classic hinges are blank or carry a four-digit date code.
When a part fails, you’ve got two choices: OEM Atlas replacement hardware, or a quality aftermarket equivalent like Blum or Salice, which we install regularly. The gotcha we see in San Diego: Atlas Meridian doors are drilled for 35mm hinge cups, but the door thickness runs 3/4″ nominal, which means standard soft-close hinges need a specific mounting plate depth to sit flush. If someone slaps on the wrong plate, the door hangs proud by an eighth of an inch and never closes right. We keep the correct plates on the truck.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Atlas Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawer starts sagging on one side or scrapes when you open it. This usually means the undermount glide has a broken ball bearing carrier. Once one bearing goes, the others follow within weeks because they’re carrying uneven load. We see this most often in the drawer next to the stove, where heat cycles do their work on the plastic carrier.
- Soft-close stops working on one door but not others. The damper inside the hinge has blown its piston seal. It’s not repairable. The hinge needs to be swapped, and it’s the most common Atlas hardware failure we replace in San Diego homes.
- Cabinet door won’t stay aligned no matter how much you adjust it. The hinge plate screws into the cabinet face have stripped out of the particleboard. Over-tightening is the usual culprit. We repair this with a threaded insert, not wood glue and hope.
- Laminate edge banding peeling on drawer fronts or doors. San Diego’s coastal humidity plus heat from the dishwasher causes the adhesive to release. Once water gets behind the banding, the substrate swells and the panel starts to cup.
- Toe kick or base trim pulling away from the cabinet box. This is either the original installer skipped enough fasteners, or there’s been a slow leak from the sink or dishwasher that’s softened the material. In San Diego, we also see this where homes settle on hillside lots and the floor shifts by half a degree.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what you can expect to pay in San Diego, installed:
- Hardware-only repairs (hinges, glides, drawer pulls, soft-close retrofit): $95 to $350, depending on how many pieces and which hardware you choose.
- Cabinet installation (new boxes for a partial kitchen refresh): $4,720 to $15,340.
- Full kitchen remodel including cabinetry, countertops, and backsplash: $16,520 to $53,100. The range is wide because a Mission Hills condo galley kitchen and a Rancho Bernardo open-plan kitchen are very different jobs.
Every quote is written before work starts and shows parts and labor as separate line items, so you can see exactly where the money goes. If we quote you a hinge replacement and the job turns out bigger once we open the wall, the new number is written down and approved by you before we touch anything else. The price on day one is the price on the invoice, unless you change the scope. And every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if the part or the install fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.

AfterDIY or Call Us?
An honest split here. Replacing a door hinge or a drawer pull is a 15-minute job with a Phillips head screwdriver, same as it is on any cabinet line. Where DIY goes wrong with Atlas specifically is the soft-close hardware. Those hinge plates need to be set at the correct depth and the damper tension adjusted to the door weight or the door either slams or binds. If you’ve never done one, your first attempt will probably eat an hour and leave you with a door that’s worse than when you started.
For anything involving cabinet boxes, countertop removal, or drawers that won’t track, call us. There’s no high-tension danger like a garage door spring, but a loaded drawer box falling out of its glides can crush a toe or crack a tile floor. The repair itself is straightforward; it’s the diagnosing that matters. Call (619) 604-9624 and we’ll talk through what you’re seeing.
FAQs

Atlas cabinets typically last 15 to 25 years in San Diego, but the hardware (hinges, glides, soft-close mechanisms) usually needs replacement somewhere between years 8 and 12. Coastal humidity wears out the dampers and bearing carriers before the cabinet boxes themselves fail. If your boxes are solid and only the hardware is tired, replacing hardware is a fraction of the cost of new cabinets. Call (619) 604-9624 and we can tell you over the phone whether it’s a hardware fix or something bigger.
Yes, in most cases. Stripped hinge holes, blown soft-close dampers, sagging drawers, and separated face frames are all repairable. The situations where replacement makes more sense are water damage that’s swollen the particleboard, or cabinet boxes that have pulled away from a settling wall in a way that suggests a structural issue behind them. We’ll tell you honestly which one you’re dealing with before quoting anything.
A kitchen’s worth of hinge and glide replacement usually takes one day. If we’re replacing cabinet boxes or countertops as part of the job, expect two to five days depending on scope. We give you a defined arrival window before we start, so you’re not waiting around all day wondering.
We stock the common Atlas-compatible hinges, glides, and mounting plates on our trucks, and we source OEM Atlas parts or quality equivalents from Blum and Salice for the less common items, usually within a few days. We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone products, so if your kitchen mixes brands, we can handle the whole job with one visit.
