Delta Driveway & Pavers: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
We keep Delta-compatible driveway and paver components in stock across San Diego and install them for a flat, written price you’ll see before we touch the job. Most Delta driveway and paver parts in this market run between $295 and $1,250 installed, depending on what failed and how much of the surrounding surface has to come up. Homeowners usually discover the problem the same way: a paver that’s sunk half an inch, a drain channel that no longer moves water, or an edge restraint that’s let a whole corner of the driveway drift.
This page tells you what we carry, what it costs in San Diego, and how to tell whether the part you’re looking at is actually the one your project needs. We’re an independent contractor, not a Delta factory store, so we can also tell you honestly when a quality aftermarket part is the smarter spend.
If you want a fast answer: call (619) 604-9624 and tell us what you’re seeing. We’ll match the part, quote the repair, and schedule the visit. Trevor Nash runs our San Diego crew, and his rule is simple: “Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there.”
Which Delta Models This Applies To

Delta’s driveway and paver systems are built around a few consistent specifications, but that doesn’t mean every Delta part fits every Delta project. The key is knowing your series. Delta’s permeable paver grid systems, for example, use a 24-inch by 24-inch tray module with interlocking tabs, while Delta’s edge restraint channels are sized for either 60mm or 80mm paver heights. If you grab an 80mm channel for a 60mm paver edge, it will sit proud of the surface and catch tires.
The fastest way to identify your part is to lift one paver near the damaged area and look for a molded code on the underside of the tray or the inner wall of the channel. Delta molds a two-letter series prefix followed by a four-digit part number. Take a photo of that code and text it to us at (619) 604-9624 before you buy anything, and we’ll tell you within the hour whether it matches what we stock.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for paver trays and structural grids, we recommend OEM Delta because the interlock geometry matters and third-party trays don’t always seat flush. For edge restraints and drain channels, a quality aftermarket equivalent from a brand like NDS or Belgard often performs identically and knocks 15 to 20 percent off the material cost. We carry both and will tell you which one we’d put on our own driveway.

Signs Your Delta Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sunken pavers near the driveway apron. This is almost always a failed compacted base or a cracked grid tray underneath, not a bad paver. In San Diego’s clay-heavy soils, winter rain saturates the ground and spring drying cracks it; if the base wasn’t compacted at the correct depth, the tray loses support and the surface drops. The pavers themselves are usually fine, but the support system underneath is not.
- Edge restraints pulling away from the driveway border. Delta’s spike-in edge restraints eventually loosen when cars consistently drive within an inch of the edge. What starts as a quarter-inch drift turns into a full paver row walking sideways across the lawn. You’ll see the plastic channel tipping outward and the corner pavers starting to separate.
- Standing water that used to drain. Delta driveway drain channels clog with decomposed granite, palm frond litter, and sand from the beach in under two years if the sediment basket isn’t cleaned. Once water stops moving through the channel, it sheets across the driveway, and the surrounding pavers start to heave from the trapped moisture beneath them.
- Crushed or split tray corners under truck tires. Heavy vehicle loading on Delta trays that were bedded over an undersized base layer produces cracks in the tray’s corner tabs. You’ll see the paver above rocking slightly when you step on it because one corner of the tray has broken away from its neighbor.
- Gaps opening between paver rows. In drought years, San Diego’s soil contracts enough to shift even a properly installed base. Delta’s systems tolerate some movement, but once gaps exceed about three-eighths of an inch, the interlock is failing and water, ants, and weeds are doing real work underneath the surface.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we charge in San Diego, written so you can budget before picking up the phone:
- Paver tray replacement (single tray, labor included): $295 – $825 depending on tray type and access
- Edge restraint repair (per 20 linear feet): $350 – $900
- Driveway drain channel replacement: $470 – $1,250 depending on channel length and whether the surrounding pavers must come up
- Base re-compaction under a sunken section: $590 – $1,650 depending on square footage and whether new base material is needed
- Full driveway section rebuild (paver lift, base repair, tray replacement, re-set): $5,310 – $14,160, which matches our standard concrete driveway installation range because the labor profile is similar
Every one of these numbers is a written price, not a ballpark. The range exists because until we’ve lifted the pavers and seen the base, we don’t know whether we’re dealing with a single cracked tray or a compacted layer that was never done right. You’ll get the exact number in writing before we start, and the number on the invoice will match it.
DIY or Call Us?
There are two things an owner can safely check. First, clean your drain channel sediment baskets with a garden hose and a gloved hand, because half of San Diego’s Delta driveway drainage problems are just clogged channels, not failed parts. Second, lift a loose paver with a flat pry bar at the edge and look underneath for a cracked tray or crushed base material, then set it back down.
What we don’t recommend: pulling a full section of pavers, attempting to re-compact a base without a plate compactor, or replacing edge restraints without understanding how the load transfers from the paver edge to the channel. When a base fails in clay soils like we have across San Diego, the repair is about lifting, re-compacting, and re-grading. Done wrong, you’ll have the same paver sinking again by fall. If you’ve checked the baskets and the pavers are still moving, call (619) 604-9624. We’ll come out, lift the section, and give you a written number for the fix.
FAQs

In San Diego’s climate, a properly installed Delta driveway system typically lasts 20 to 25 years before the base needs major re-compaction, though the surface pavers often outlast the trays and edge restraints beneath them. The limiting factor here isn’t sun or rain damage to the pavers; it’s gradual base settlement and tray fatigue under repeated vehicle loads. If you’re seeing failures before year eight, the problem is almost always installation depth, not the Delta product itself.
Yes, when the failure is isolated. A single cracked tray, a loose edge restraint section, or a clogged drain channel can often be repaired without pulling the entire driveway. The decision comes down to what’s underneath: if the base is still compacted and level, we repair; if the base has washed out or compressed, we replace the affected section and re-set it properly. You’ll get that answer in writing before anyone lifts a paver.
A single tray or edge restraint replacement typically takes half a day from the time we arrive to the time the pavers are back in place and swept with joint sand. A base re-compaction under a sunken section usually runs one to two days, since the area needs to settle after compaction before the pavers go back down. We’ll give you a real arrival window when you schedule, not a four-hour guess.
We keep the most common Delta paver trays, edge restraints, and drain channel components on the truck for San Diego service calls. If your part is a less common series or a discontinued size, we’ll source it directly and have it in hand before we schedule your visit. We don’t start a job until the correct part is in the truck, because coming back to finish a half-done repair isn’t something we’ll put you through.
