Cambria Bathroom Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
Cambria bathroom remodeling in San Diego typically runs $10,620 to $33,040 installed, depending on the size of the space, the quartz configuration, and what’s behind the existing walls. We stock Cambria quartz slabs at our San Diego yard, and we can usually start a bathroom remodel within two to three weeks of your written estimate. Most owners reach out after a countertop crack, a failed sink mount, or a shower surround that’s delaminating at the seam, and they want to know one thing: can this be fixed without gutting the whole bathroom, or is it time to rebuild it properly?
Here’s the short version. If the Cambria surface itself is intact, we can often repair or replace the supporting structure underneath it and save the slab. If the quartz is cracked, chipped through the full thickness, or separating from the substrate, the honest answer is usually replacement. Either way, you’ll get a written number before we touch anything.
Which Cambria Models This Applies To

Cambria quartz is manufactured in large slab format at one facility in Minnesota, then cut and polished by fabricators across the country. That means there are no “series” or “model years” the way you’d see with a faucet line. What matters for a San Diego remodel is the design name, the finish, and the thickness. Cambria produces slabs in 1 cm, 2 cm, and 3 cm thicknesses. For bathroom vanities and shower surrounds, 2 cm and 3 cm are standard in San Diego homes. The 1 cm material is almost never used in bathrooms because it needs a full plywood backer and doesn’t hold up at countertop overhangs.
Design names like Brittanicca, Torquay, Swanbridge, and Ella are cosmetic differences; structural compatibility is about thickness and edge profile. If you’re matching an existing piece, check the underside of the countertop near the sink cutout. Most fabricators etch the Cambria design name and the date there. If that’s not visible, measure the edge thickness. A 3 cm slab means we can match it directly from our San Diego inventory or order the same design from Cambria’s distribution network. One thing to know: Cambria changes its design lineup periodically. If your countertop is more than about eight years old, there’s a real chance that exact design is no longer produced, and we’ll need to have a straight conversation about either a close visual match or a full bathroom refresh.
We’re an independent San Diego remodeling contractor. We work with Cambria quartz every week, but we aren’t owned by or affiliated with Cambria. The same goes for the other lines we install, like KraftMaid cabinetry, Silestone, and Kohler fixtures.

Signs Your Cambria Bathroom Remodel Needs Attention
- Hairline cracks radiating from the sink or faucet holes. Quartz is hard but brittle under point loads. In San Diego bathrooms we see this most often when the sink was undermounted to a slab that wasn’t fully supported at the rim, or when the faucet was overtightened without the proper backing plate. These cracks grow slowly, then one day a heavy hand on the soap dispenser finishes the job.
- Shower surround seams pulling apart or showing gaps. This is almost always the substrate moving behind the quartz. Homes near the coast deal with humidity swings that older cement board and drywall weren’t sealed for. The Cambria slab is stable; what’s behind it is flexing.
- Water staining or darkening at the vanity front edge. Quartz doesn’t absorb water, but the plywood subtop under it does. If you see swelling or darkening at the exposed edge of the deck, water is getting in somewhere, usually around the sink flange or a short backsplash that was never properly sealed.
- The countertop “sounds hollow” when tapped with a knuckle. A properly installed Cambria vanity top has full mortar or adhesive contact across the substrate. Hollow spots mean the adhesive has failed or was never troweled properly in that area, which is exactly where a crack will eventually form.
- Grout or caulk lines that crack every few months no matter how many times you re-caulk. Movement. Either the vanity or the wall framing is shifting with San Diego’s seasonal moisture changes, and the rigid Cambria can’t flex with it as well as a ceramic tile installation would.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full Cambria bathroom remodel in San Diego, plan on $10,620 to $33,040. That’s the installed range when you’re replacing the vanity countertop, sink, and either a shower surround or tub deck. What pushes you toward the top of that range: a larger vanity with dual sinks, a custom shower with mitered edges and slab walls, plumbing relocations, or rotted floor framing that has to be replaced before anything cosmetic goes in.
A smaller job, like swapping a single 60-inch vanity top with a new Cambria slab and undermount sink, usually lands between $5,900 and $14,160 when it’s part of a small bathroom remodel in San Diego. The countertop material itself might run $2,360 to $7,670 depending on the design. You’re not paying a “mystery line item” for our time. Every estimate is written, and the number you approve before we start is the number on your invoice. If the job shifts because we open a wall and find something nobody could have seen, we stop, show you what we found, and give you a new written number. No change orders that show up on the back end.
All of our Cambria work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the install fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That promise is in writing, on every project, alongside the Cambria manufacturer warranty on the material itself.

Cambria quartz is not a material we recommend cutting yourself. It requires a diamond blade, a wet saw setup that controls dust, and a steady hand for the edge detailing. A bad cut turns a $2,500 slab into an expensive mistake in about four seconds. What you can safely check on your own: look for the fabricator’s marking under the countertop, measure the overhang on all three sides with a tape measure, and take photos of any cracks or gap areas before you call us. That information helps us quote the job faster.
What you shouldn’t do is attempt to jack up a sagging vanity top, re-set a heavy slab by yourself, or pry off a shower surround panel. A full Cambria slab can weigh 200 pounds or more. When one shifts unexpectedly, it can crush fingers or crack the slab you were trying to save. Let a trained crew handle the lifting. Trevor Nash has run Cambria installs across San Diego for the better part of two decades, and his line at the first walkthrough is always the same: “Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there.”
FAQs

Cambria quartz should last 30 years or more in a properly installed bathroom. The material is non-porous and won’t stain, etch, or absorb water the way natural stone or grout will. What fails first in San Diego is almost never the quartz; it’s the substructure, the sealant joints, or the plumbing connections around it.
A crack that hasn’t split through the full slab thickness can sometimes be filled with a color-matched quartz repair epoxy, but the repair will always be slightly visible in the right light. For a vanity top, replacement is usually the smarter long-term decision. Call (619) 604-9624 and we’ll tell you honestly which way we’d go if it were our bathroom.
A single vanity replacement with Cambria typically takes one day of on-site work once the slab is fabricated, which is usually five to seven business days after templating. A full bathroom gut with a Cambria shower surround takes two to three weeks from demo to final caulk. We give you the schedule in writing before we start.
We keep a rotating inventory of Cambria slabs at our San Diego yard and can also order any current Cambria design through their distribution network, typically within a week. If your existing design has been discontinued, we’ll show you the closest current match in person before you commit to anything.
