Wellborn Kitchen Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
We stock, source, and install Wellborn-compatible cabinet parts, hinges, drawer slides, and door fronts across San Diego, with most replacements falling between $165 and $840 installed depending on the part and how many cabinets are involved. If you’re dealing with a sagging door, a drawer that catches, or a hinge that’s pulled loose from the cabinet box, we can usually match the part to your Wellborn series the same week. The most common call we get starts with a door that won’t stay closed or a drawer that grinds when it slides, and the owner has usually been living with it for months before the frustration finally wins.
Which Wellborn Models This Applies To
Wellborn has built cabinets under several series lines over the years, including Wellborn Premier, Wellborn Estate, and the semi-custom Wellborn Select line. The key to matching a replacement part is the cabinet box label, usually stamped on the inside of a drawer face or the back of a door. Look for a four or five digit code that starts with the cabinet’s series identifier. The hinge cup diameter is the other tell. Most Wellborn doors from the last fifteen years use a 35mm hinge cup, but some older Estate series cabinets used a 26mm cup that takes a different hinge entirely. If you measure 26mm and order a 35mm hinge, it won’t seat properly no matter how many times you try. We keep both on the truck, along with the mounting plates that match each series. For Wellborn specifically, we default to OEM hinges and slides whenever they’re still in production, because the reveal (the gap between door edges) is set to the original hardware spec. A quality aftermarket hinge can work, but the door may sit a few millimeters proud or shy of where it was, which matters when you have a row of doors on the same run.

Signs Your Wellborn Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Doors that drift closed on their own. This is almost always a worn self-closing mechanism inside the hinge. Wellborn hinges have a small spring that loses tension over years of use, and once one goes, the doors next to it are usually close behind.
- Drawers that stick, grind, or tilt forward when opened. The ball-bearing slides Wellborn used in many series have nylon rollers that flatten over time, especially in a coastal climate like San Diego where salt air accelerates plastic fatigue. A tilted drawer means the slide has separated internally.
- Hinges pulling away from the cabinet face. The screws haven’t failed, the particleboard behind them has. This is especially common on older Wellborn boxes where the hinge mounting area has absorbed moisture from a sink-side environment.
- Visible finish lifting at the cabinet door edges. Wellborn’s thermofoil and laminate doors can delaminate after long exposure to heat, and San Diego kitchens with afternoon sun through a window see this more than most. The door needs replacement, not repair.
- Door faces cracked at the corner joints. Solid wood frames shrink and expand with humidity swings. San Diego’s mild weather means less of this than in inland climates, but cabinets near a dishwasher air vent or a poorly vented range hood still take moisture hits that open the miters over time.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a single Wellborn cabinet door, plan on $120 to $310 including the door, hinges, and installation. A full hinge replacement across a ten-cabinet kitchen runs $340 to $700. Drawer slides typically run $45 to $95 per drawer installed. If you’re replacing all doors and drawer fronts on a ten-unit Wellborn kitchen, the job lands between $2,800 and $5,400 in San Diego depending on the series and finish. Every quote we give is a written number before we start, and it includes the parts pulled specifically for your cabinet series, the labor, and our written workmanship guarantee. If a replacement hinge or slide fails inside the 365-day window, we come back and fix it at no charge. The workmanship side of the job is covered under the Kingswell standard we’ve held since 2004: price in writing first, arrival window we actually hit, and a clean site when we leave.
DIY or Call Us?
Hinges and drawer slides are among the friendlier kitchen repairs for a homeowner, and if you’re comfortable with a drill and a level, swapping a hinge is realistic. The place where DIY goes wrong on Wellborn cabinets specifically is the mounting plate alignment. If the plate is off by even a sixteenth of an inch, the door will hang crooked, and adjusting it means filling and re-drilling the screw holes, which weakens the cabinet face each time. We’ve also seen a fair number of stripped hinge cups from homeowners who forced a 35mm cup into a 26mm hole. If you want to try it yourself, measure the hinge cup before you order anything, and check the cabinet box for the Wellborn series label. If you’d rather have it done and guaranteed, call (619) 604-9624 and we’ll match the part and install it. A hinge replacement on a standard Wellborn door takes about twenty minutes per unit when we do it, and we leave the old hardware with you in a bag.
FAQs

Most Wellborn hinges and slides last 12 to 18 years in San Diego, with coastal homes seeing slightly shorter lifespans because salt air accelerates plastic and spring wear. Heavy-use drawers next to the cooktop or sink tend to fail first.
Hinges are not repairable. The internal self-closing spring is sealed inside the hinge body, and once it loses tension, the only real fix is replacement. We carry both OEM and quality aftermarket replacements for most Wellborn series.
Most hinge or slide replacements on a single cabinet take 20 to 30 minutes once the part is matched. A whole-kitchen hinge replacement across ten cabinets is usually a three to four hour appointment. We can have the parts on hand before we arrive, so there’s no second trip.
We stock the most common Wellborn hinge sizes, mounting plates, and drawer slides on our trucks. For door fronts and full door replacements, we order directly against your cabinet series and finish code, which typically takes one to two weeks in San Diego. If you have a door that’s delaminating or cracked, call (619) 604-9624 and we’ll match it to your existing cabinets.
